I must say, I think boots look kinda smart with kilts and skirts. I sometimes wear trainer boots myself. Other times I wear trainers or sandals. Ordinary shoes look a bit rubbish to me, but I can't work out why.

I have a denim Union Kilt. Yes, it's a good quality product. I do find it a bit heavy. The pockets are great - capacious and well-positioned. Slightly over-long for my tastes in standard length but washing it seemed to fix that.
