On Length
I favour mid-knee or just above. I find I prefer my kilts after washing and shrinking them slightly. In fact I managed to turn one of them from a gut fit to a waist fit which is much better.

Buying a Skirt
I have certainly bought skirts in places like Walmart. In fact I tried one of them on first. I do, however, do this in stores where no-one will know me. Supermarkets are the least-embarrassing places to buy skirts I find.

I have one too
I've had the blue Union Kilt for a while, and have also experienced many positive comments, including "Wicked Kilt". Which reminds me, I need to iron it because I washed it to try to shrink it a bit.

Skirt Work
I have worn a kilt to company social occasions, but not to the office. Much as I would like to wear my kilt more, it would only take one puritan in a higher position to make that a bad idea.

Short vs Long Skirts
I like mine just above the knee. Since I have to restrict myself to buying standard (23 inch) length kilts, and I am only average height, I have resorted to washing some of them at a higher temperature to shorten them a bit.

Windy Pin Method
I am restricted, in general, to kilts rather than skirts, so I pin right through both layers. This, in general, keeps the kilt down in the wind. In really high winds I wear a below - waist jacket, which holds the whole arrangement down. I am no kind of kilt purist so I don't mind that this method of...

Yes, and England has a mainly Scottish government into the bargain. I know Scots tend to be talented, mainly due, before dumbing-down, to a hard-nosed educational syllabus - but talented people given so much opportunity should not also whinge and whine. Most of the highland dress mythology, of cours...

Belted Sarong
Yes, I've used the belt method, but frankly you can just wrap the sarong around, fix the belt and fold the extra material over the top of the belt - it works fine for me. South Sea islanders know the trick of tying them properly without a belt - in fact they tried to instruct me but I still couldn't...

Nonconformity? - yes, probably. Letting the feminine side out a bit? - certainly in my case. I don't think it's related to greed, etc though. The average age of a skirt-wearing man is around the time you stop caring about what others think so much. You don't admire role models as you did when you we...

Boots not so bad
I must say, I think boots look kinda smart with kilts and skirts. I sometimes wear trainer boots myself. Other times I wear trainers or sandals. Ordinary shoes look a bit rubbish to me, but I can't work out why.

Anyone Bought a MIDAS Skirt/kilt?
Has anyone here bought a skirt or kilt from MIDAS clothing? Their stuff looks nice on the website http://www.midasclothing.com/pages/ and seems to usefully cross over between kilts and skirts in some products.

You are certainly right to say women almost exclude skirts from their everyday wear. Over the Easter break, I was out and about with a group of women in the midst of a couple of hundred other men and women. I may be mistaken, but I could see no other skirt in my field of vision save the one I was we...
