Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
Ultimately everything is profit driven. There needs to be a market for mens skirts to be taken on by big retailers. Previous projects like Skirtcraft, Midasclothing have come and gone. The best we can do is normalise skirts as much as we can just by wearing them like its the most normal thing. They...

Re: Thobe
If you want a 'dress' for men, medieval tunics are a good option, they were worn in Europe by native people for hundreds of years, and they do not have a direct 'religious group' association. Just avoid designs that resemble a cassock (Christian religious robe / dress). There's loads of information ...

There are a lot of them, chip from the 'everybodyskirts' website has an extensive collection of outfit pictures.

Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
Most of my latex skirt patterns are circle skirts, where length and waist size are the only metrics required. The basic skirt is a circle of cloth, with a hole in the middle for the waist. A sort of cloth dough nut. I am thinking that that you could sew on patch pockets, and suspenders (braces). Pe...

Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
The next stage (where I'm currently combatting) involves moving away from all those annoying pleats and here is where we need to look to the alternative outfitters rather than mainstream chains at present. For this i'm thinking of emp clothing with something like this https://www.emp.co.uk/p/fear-i...

Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
For a start, stop using the word skirt. The word 'kilt' is commonly accepted by most people to signify a skirt that it is socially acceptable for a man to wear. I have seen the Greek Fustanelli described as a Greek kilt. People have been arguing about names and what to call things for years, and I ...

Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
The above several comments are fine observations, however it all misses the original point: there is a considerable amount of 'low hanging fruit' which would be easy to begin to implement, and which would begin to reduce the barrier to entry.

Re: How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
Stu will perhaps remember the Topman venture into kilt like skirts for men that ended up on the sale rail very quickly indeed. ASOS had a few unisex designs available last year but they have gradually dwindled away. I would imagine that it is currently too nice to be viable in a major clothing reta...

How to normalise skirts for men: proactively reduce the barrier to entry
As things stand, the barrier to entry for men who may consider adding skirts / skirted garments to their wardrobe is pretty high, due to many factors: Perceived social stigmas. Lack of garment availability. Because they were designed in the mould of woman's fashion, many skirts available have visual...

Re: My #5 Skirt
Here's the "pattern" I came up with for this skirt. Pattern.png Best to use a non-stretch, slightly heavy fabric like chinos for pants. I did not add any flare for my skirt so falls straight down like a kilt. Adding more flare will cause it to sit with a more A-line look. I also added two...

Re: My #5 Skirt
Things like this should be generally available as a male skirt, kilt without the excess fabric. I can't find male skirts being sold so I sew my own. The fabric is cheap and I can experiment with the designs. What I meant was, while this category of garment does not currently exist in the commercial...

Re: Closing Window of Opportunity
I'd be happy to see the wedding industry contract a bit. One factor in the decline of marriage is that too many people think they have to spend shedloads of money on a stupidly expensive ceremony and party when they could just have a few friends over and get married with out so much ridiculous fuss...

Re: My #5 Skirt
Works well, looks like a kilt with no pleats. Things like this should be generally available as a male skirt, kilt without the excess fabric. That would be an excellent idea, after all the pleats in a kilt is what makes it awkward to wear especially when sitting down. I think quite a few of us here...

Re: Slips
There is this second option you can wear as a undergarment that is called chemise, even though they are being sold today as night clothes. This has been worn by men with their dresses before slips. You can find these chemise just plain without lace and no extra on top for breast. Walmart sells thes...

Re: Custom skirts
I've looked into this before. The cost is prohibitive. One dressmaker even said yes but it will be more expensive than those in the shop, "are you know that?" I've contacted Dara too following the article linked to, but again its extortionate when there are some retail skirts that work. I...
