Re: 16 Days to Stop Violence Against Women

Obviously it will be difficult to get everyone onboard in 16 days as no doubt will be evident in this thread. Thanks denimini. It's an annual programme designed to raise issues in the hope that what we learn during the 16 days this year can change our behaviour between now and next year's programme...

Re: 16 Days to Stop Violence Against Women

Men are far more likely to be the victims of violence than women, but they couldn't care less about male victims. Thanks for your comment, Stu. The programme does not deny that men are also victims of violence, or that men are, in some societies, more likely to be victims of violence than women. Al...

16 Days to Stop Violence Against Women

Since the current Western Australian government won office in 2017 there has been a campaign called "16 Days to Stop Violence Against Women" starting on 25th November (The International Day for for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and ending on 10th December (Human Rights Day). On 28th Nov...

Re: Tomorrow I Fly

The data don't lie. However, no national leader had the stones to immediately ban air-travel to/from the affected areas. Wonderful to see someone use the plural verb to go with the plural noun "data". Thanks. The assertion that no national leader banned air-travel from affected areas isn't quite ri...

Re: The things people will say

Two recent discussions come to mind. In the first I was talking to someone involved in professional standards in the Anglican Church about comments which had been fed back to her, and the issue of my "attire" was raised. Whereas I had no problem talking about me wearing skirts she studiously avoided...

Re: The worm has turned

Why not just take advantage of the freedom provided by the skirt/kilt and sit to urinate? We don't have a problem when we need to empty our bowels, so why do we have a problem when we empty our bladders? Or is it a case of "that's what women do and it would be demeaning of a man to do the same"?

Re: Wearing a skirt to a Clinic

Just curious if those medical people were male, and if they themselves were wearing skirts when they made those comments. If not, I would personally feel like maybe I was being patronized, even if the opinion was sensible. Both genders, and the men's responses were akin to "I wish I had the guts (o...

Re: Wearing a skirt to a Clinic

I appreciate you guys who go to the doc in a skirt, but I’d rather not have a doctor deciding he knows me by my clothing. My fashion choices are mine, and not worth having to challenge my physician over his initial judgements based on attire. My experience with medical people is actually opposite t...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

Definitely cooler now that we're well into our summer, haven't had a day under about 32°C in two weeks, and several days in a row of 37 to 39°C last week. It's Perth's turn to be too hot. Top temps the last few days have been 36, 38, 39, 40. Today's forecast 41, tomorrow's 40. Driving round in a bu...

Interesting concept. "Café" is actually French for "coffee" so a "coffee café" is a coffee coffee.

Oh the joys of the English language!

Re: (Good) Comments are king.

Thanks 6ft3 Aussie. Your story reminds me of the time I had been at work in skirt and sandals on a hot day in Perth. I worked on the 6th floor and took the lift back to the car park in the basement. On the 5th floor we picked up some workers from another company. One of the ladies looked at me and s...

Re: Where did you first get the idea to wear a skirt?

For sure, once someone knows you as, "that guy who always shows up in a skirt," they'll see you wearing pants as unusual. Very true! I ran a school bus service for a while, always skirted. One day, before I moved out of the area, my path crossed that of one of the mothers. Skirts were inappropriate...

It got to 41° here yesterday, but then we use °C, so it was a bit warmer than 41°F.
Good weather for skirts.

Re: Do I look like a priest or what?

A while back someone posted that a fellow member of a church had approached the parish priest in an attempt to get said member to stop wearing skirts to church. The reply was something along the lines of "how can I tell him not to wear a skirt when I wear a dress every Sunday?" In the Roman, Anglica...

'sno' good telling me that. I grew up in snow drifts. we did get some in the far south of Western Australia a few weeks back - lasted less than a day and you had to climb a 1200m hill to get to it.
