Re: Dr Who

anti-skirt rhetoric Where? I haven't seen any of that. I think you are letting your weariness cloud your vision. I've seen people expressing widely differing opinions on the topic of skirt-wearing and its origins, history, and social implications, but "anti-skirt rhetoric"... ???!!! it se...

Pride

So, our local Pride march and festival is this Saturday. Since some members consider that wearing a skirt must always be regarded as a fully masculine option indicating nothing about one's sexuality or gender identity, should I just wear trousers for the occasion? Actually I was thinking of wearing ...

Re: Dr Who

I can see why a number of former SkirtCafe regulars have given up and gone elsewhere when the resident mods keep criticising the members. I'm becoming tired of the constant negativity on the site. I'm trying to ignore it. But next time someone gets all prickly when other members engage in "con...

Re: Trousers, Women have more....

The utility kilt could be seen as the opposite effect: men have taken the skirt and restricted it so that it can only be worn in one length and in drab colours.

Men aren't boring: they're scared of being thought effeminate or gay.

Re: Man in skirt wins Eurovision

If you find the ManBox constraining, then there are two options: (1) try to make the box bigger; (2) step outside the box. Which you choose is up to you: clearly a lot of people here are much happier with option (1). It might be better if you didn't have to choose - if it was generally accepted that...

Re: Dua Lipa’s SNL performance featuring skirted male dancers

Who, for instance, is paying attention to male-specific cancers? Who is paying attention to the epidemic of male suicide? Who is paying attention to the problem of male depression (which links strongly into suicide)? NOBODY . Well, I don't know about the US (which I regard as to some extent a broke...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

I thought that if you can't wear a skirt at a progressive rock concert, then when can you wear one? So I got out a pleated mock-leather black skirt that I've never dared to wear before. Also a cropped T shirt (ditto), though I started the evening with a sweatshirt covering that. No comment at all at...

Re: Things that go together

Coffee and Music DO go together :D They most certainly do. J. S. Bach performed regularly in a local coffee house in Leipzig, and wrote a miniature comic opera known as the "Coffee Cantata". I was once told that Brahms couldn't get down to composing until he had had a cup of strong black ...

Re: kilt wearing

I shall be at my father's funeral next Thursday, so I shall be getting out the proper Scottish-style kilt and trappings, as the most acceptable skirt option in such a situation. It's the appropriate tartan for the surname, even if his family did come from quite the other end of the island of Great B...

Re: Hypothethical Question

We can used “newspeak” to our advantage. Men that loose touch with new concepts are going to get left behind and will stagnate while others will move forward and accomplish their goals. No, "newspeak" is well discredited by anybody over about 50. We have vastly different backgrounds, upbr...

Re: Ultra thick tights

I have found crotchless tights to work well for these purposes and find it easier than garters (suspenders to you). I have found "mock suspender tights" very practical, except when you have to spend several minutes untwisting them before putting them on. I had one experience with six-stra...

I am going to guess that they are actually full-skirted coats or surcoats.
