Re: "Kilts are ‘well and truly back’" - The Guardian

Kilts are certainly in favour in this household: my son wanted one for his 15th birthday. As they are very expensive, and he is still growing, I gave him my old Black Watch kilt, with a new sporran and some socks and garter flashes. He wore the whole kit today, with shorts underneath.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

Today in the station car park, a guy wearing a fairly long, very shiny purple skirt (with white trainers). I managed to say "nice skirt!" while on my way past. (Back from a run, so in leggings not skirt myself.)

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

I had a formal college dinner on Friday, so I wore the kilt. (Lindsay masquerading as muted Stewart of Atholl, in an 18th-century style with box pleats, semidress sporran, dark red hose, Prince Charlie jacket.) Our new College President, who is a very distinguished Scot, made an approving comment wh...

Re: So my wife got me a handbag for Christmas….

I have just acquired a small pouch with a shoulder strap so that I can lug my mobile phone around the house while wearing something without pockets (yesterday it was a jersey dress).

Re: And this is still part of the problem..

I posted the article on Facebook. A female friend replied saying that women can be as bad when it comes to ridiculing fashion choices: she was continually mocked by office colleagues for wearing what she liked instead of conforming to the -- much broader but still restrictive (and age-ist) -- female...

Re: National Skirt Day

Founded in 1865, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) extended into almost every southern state by 1870 and became a vehicle for white southern resistance to the Republican Party’s Reconstruction-era policies aimed at establishing political and economic equality for Black Americans. Its members waged an undergro...

Oscars 2024

I was just wondering whether the Oscars would be boring, and this turned up on the BBC live feed. (I totally want to wear something like this one day!) "US filmmaker, actor and author Eugene Lee Yang is making a statement in a huge, billowing skirt and matching fitted jacket. He's following in ...

They're used to it now. I've been wearing a kilt since before they were born.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Went to pick up the kids from scouts, where they had been at a skittle alley in a local pub. Expecting just to sit in the car park, or maybe loom in the background, I just stayed in the black denim skirt I was wearing (over black tights and black suede shoes). Sure enough, they were running late, an...

Given Galatians 3:28, I don't see how this matters either, actually. People are just using Bible verses to reinforce their own social outlook.

Bright colours, pencil skirts, and stiletto heels probably make more of a media splash than the dark utility kilts and Doc Martens favoured by many MUG-wearers.

Re: My newest dress

I wore a new dress today: a knee length jersey dress in horizontal stripes of navy and beige (over black tights), which I found in a charity shop. It's very comfortable, and I'll definitely be wearing it again. I wore a raincoat over it to the supermarket, and as it isn't hugely warm, I wore a V-nec...

Re: A standard skirt for work....

I'll start with a question, why settle for "standard", most females don't? I say most, because it depends on the job and employer in question as much as the individual. I was talking about fashion and gender with my wife last night, and she commented that if she worked in London, there wo...

Re: More gender neutral retail

search Wildfang on the Urban Outfitters site produces no result. As for their own site, my impression is "butch/masculine", but without men and still trading on that stereotypical view. I actually left a comment on the Wildfang website, and got a reasonably emollient response. I wrote: &q...
