Skorts are just a skirt with built in underwear. Unfortunately the underwear part isn't designed, at least for now, for men's junk.

I have traveled cross country several times, both driving and flying. I have only worn skirts and I have not had any issues. I did have 1 guy and a couple woman complement me on my skirts. But most people don't care or they don't even notice. So go and enjoy your vacation.
