Re: Hello and I am back.
Egads, Rob! Hopefully the complications have all been sorted out. As good as can be. I will have ongoing back problems for the rest of my life but there is nothing I can do about it so just have to get the most out of life I can! Skirted middle aged man with a bad back on a Disability Pension. Now ...

Hello and I am back.
Hi to all the old crew and all the new members since I have been inactive. It's been about 3 years since I last posted. 4 back operations and a few complications later! It's a long story... Still wearing kilts and skirts nearly all the time I now feel I can actively participate again. One thing I do...

Re: The "Drake Equation" and its modern meaning
We must of course assume that ET actually uses radio waves as we know them to communicate! If we are such a young civilization compared to the age of the universe then ET may have advanced communications well beyond radio assuming he has been around for even a thousand years more than us. You only h...

Re: First time?
I went for a walk around the block in my first Utilikilt with my wife. Heart rate was up a bit and I was looking at everyone to see their reaction. Only comment "Wow that must be some much cooler and more comfortable than trousers or shorts on a day like today" :D That one comment gave me ...

Re: Do folks notice or not?
My wife and I spent the morning in the CBD of Hobart on Saturday. I had my plain green kilt on, a light shirt and leather jacket.. Plenty of people looked but no one commented at all. Even the lass that had to fit me with a new pair of shoes. I think that may have challenged her a bit :D The thing t...

Re: pleats?
While the idea sounds great - you have to be very care full with the fabric. I have actually made a light weight kilt out of a similar fabric to good trousers. The big problem however is the wind. Even the lightest breeze tends to lift the fabric  The most successful version for me has been a...

Re: Men in kilts are HOT!!!
Must start by saying that the sooner we get away from a "correct" way to wear a kilt the better. Down the years it has become no more than a fashion statement with all that impliies. Albanach, Sassenach, or whatever, nobody has the inherent right to pronounce on rights or wrongs. Wear the...

Re: D.C. Dalgliesh Weaving Mill in Selkirk, Scotland
Congratulations on a huge gamble. I hope it goes well for you. Though it moves away from the traditional I would love to see more block colours and a move away from tartan in everyday kilts. I feel then they would be accepted more as every day dress and not just the wearer representing their country...

Re: Hi from Sydney
Hi and a much delayed welcome from Tassie.
Unfortunately there is not to many of us in the land of Oz at the moment it seems and we are scattered across this huge country.
If you find yourself headed Hobart way though give me a shout. Fellow skirt wearers are always welcome.
Cheers
Rob

http://www.rainskirts.com/products/rainskirts This is the one which appeals to me, they come in up to a 50" waist and various lengths. Dear but they look like an excellent product. A very well made product, very happy with mine. And it folds up small enough to put in a small bag. Actually if i...

Re: I broke the mold.
Nice pic. Rob. I agree about the length of the U/K on you. It's a tad too long. Funny, I thought everything in Tasmania (including the signage and all) was upside down. I'm obviously mistaken. T. That was about 5 years ago and at that stage I was more nervous about the kilt than worrying about the ...

Re: I broke the mold.
Congratulations on the bold approach, it is the only way to go. The first kilts I wore were UKs and like you it was straight to work, only trouble was I was hooked and started wearing them full time. One of my biggest moments was my first work expo without trousers. Sustainable Living2021.jpg For me...

Re: Do folks notice or not?
I can confirm that some people certainly noticed last week. The boss dragged me out of the office to go to the solicitors to sort out some issues at work. Almost as soon as we walked in the door a very profesional older lady gave me a huge smile and a "love the kilt" comment. then after th...

Re: Old Stone Carving
Living in a country that is only 200 years old in architectural terms I am always in awe at anything that old. And what fantastic skill to carve something that is still so good after 1,100 years! The closest I get out here is watching Time Team on the ABC every week! Looking at the smiles I think th...
