I have a lot of yardage (amount unknown) of blue velour with an embossed design - probably from the 60’s or 70’s. I’m sure it would fit right in with the depicted era.

Re: Sir Garyson Perry is "just a man who likes to wear dresses"

I hope that GNC becomes more widely used to describe us. Some here would disagree with this sentiment - some would like skirt wearing to be normalized as mens clothing, such that they are conforming to their gender in wearing one. I'm a bit ambivalent about it myself - I'll accept that it can be us...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

My wife & I vacationed in Branson Missouri a week or so ago. I don't wear skirts out at home, but like to when out of town. One of the days my wife wanted to go shopping, so I wore a skirt. We started out at The Landing, which is a large open air shopping mall. She was looking for shoes, so we ...

Re: Skirt from a tablecloth?

I have access to a 24” x 24” laser cutter, as well as a 24”x48”…. Whether I’d be able to use it - that’s another issue A good sharp pair of scissors is more than capable of doing a perfectly decent job of this. We've been making clothes since way before LASER technology. Oh I do not disagree - and ...

Re: Skirt from a tablecloth?

Ha! Though I can be practical at times - for this I figured I'd make a simple paper pattern and use that to determine the radius to cut. I was just playfully bustin' you. There was precisely no ill intent intended. I, too, fall into Analysis Paralysis from time to time. I kinda figured, hence the &...

Re: Skirt from a tablecloth?

This topic reminds me of the time I bought an old tartan tablecloth from a local charity shop and wore it as a kilt for the university’s fancy dress night. I remember I just used safety pins and a belt to hold it up and it looked good. :) Yeah, but I need to turn the simplest task ever into a compl...

Re: Skirt from a tablecloth?

Thanks! It's absolutely possible, but depending on the diameter of the tablecloth (which will define the hem length) it may be somewhat difficult to find the precise centre which then means that the maths to get the size of the waist right so the tablecloth can be properly cut in precisely the right...

Skirt from a tablecloth?

Anyone attempt this or see any tutorials (a bit too busy to go down that Google/YouTube rabbit hole)? Found a vintage 70's circle tablecloth and am mulling over the possibility.

Re: skirts for men

No problem with them except one, I just cannot see why there is a fixation on "skirts" being made exclusively for men. I'll accept that there is a case for some flexibility in design with an end user in mind and even bespoke garments, but there is such a breadth of choice to be had by cro...

Re: Skirts, Pants, and Deuteronomy 22:5

I'm kind of a boring person then - I just don't worry about "the after". I mean - I live my life according to my moral compass (informed by my faith) but I don't dwell on what happens. Maybe it's avoidance, but what does it matter? We won't know until then, so <shrugs>, whatever. I see peo...

Re: Skirts in Schools - No hope for boys

Is it just me or are women the worst one's when it comes to being against men's skirts. The only time I had a man complain was because someone else put him up to it, all the other types of resistance came from women, men just seem to see it as weird but are relatively indifferent on the matter. I c...

Re: A beautiful skirt

Heavens no Coder! I would never do away with the built in slip. I got rid of the tulle net between the top layer and slip. That's going to get rid of the original silhouette of the skirt by decreasing the volume of it. I concur with crfriend - just took a closer look at the original photo. You coul...
