Re: Red pleated skirt... that inspires a kilt
As the others have said, I've found ironing the pleats first, then sewing helps a lot in getting then straight. Also, sometimes theres a foot which helps keeping the needle a constant distance from the edge. Regarding pockets, I didn't succeed in finding a good design for integrating them into the p...

Re: Red pleated skirt... that inspires a kilt
That actually looks really cool. I can't imagine a bit of ironing will do nothing at all. Pleats take absolutely ages and I can understand if they didn't all come out well. These are all straight knife pleats, right? I've always wondered if there should be a point in the middle at the back where the...

Re: Barbie Ken Games & AI
The main thing to remember about Large Language Models and similar is that they reflect the world as it is. They were trained with data about the world now, and so will only repeat that. The funniest example I've heard is that if you ask for a picture of a fish you often get hands included because m...

Re: So my wife got me a handbag for Christmas….
My SO got me a cross-body black handbag a few years ago and I use it a lot. Not so much in the winter since when you wear a coat all the time outside, the handbag feels like overkill. But now it's warming up again I'm using it more often again. it's so nice to have all the important things in one pl...

Re: Sensitive Training
People and society? Not so much. This is one of the reasons I like where I work: as someone noted when looking at a group photos of my colleagues, we're like one huge collection of nerds (even the women). Everybody has something weird, in any normal company we'd be the weirdos, but here it's the no...

Re: Sebs sweatshop
Thanks for the link to the video. I actually have that book and it's just a list of steps how to draw the patterns. But his running commentary explains why certain steps are required, and how to adjust the pattern if it's not correct. Very very helpful.

Re: Basketball team ban because of their sex
Can't have men losing to a woman, bad for morale. BS! Pure and simple. In events that are technological -- and shooting is one of those -- raw physical strength is not all that important. It's finesse. Of course it is. But the fact that some people decided she wouldn't be allowed to defend her titl...

Re: National Skirt Day
There is also a skirt day in Netherlands that is called Rokjesdag. They celebrates it later than United States. Well, it's not a fixed day. It's the first day of the year that noticably many women spontaneously wear a short skirt with bare legs. Usually the first day of the year it's 17-20C (that w...

Re: Basketball team ban because of their sex
Typical: Shooting used to have mixed events, but after Zhang Shan won gold at the 1992 Olympics she was unable to defend her title in the next Olympics because women were banned from competing in the 1996 event. You can't even argue this was done to encourage more women to compete because they didn'...

I wrote an article on this topic called Elephant in the Room: Skirts and the Male Bulge . https://everybodyskirts.com/blogs/posts/elephant-in-the-room-skirts-and-the-male-bulge What an amazingly cool idea. I liked all the different photos, that's must have taken some effort to work it all out, well...

Re: Skirts, Pants, and Deuteronomy 22:5
After Europe got tired of religious wars and broke the power of the church, extremists tended to move to the American colonies where they could practice their extremist views. We in Europe have always tried to keep a larger distance between the church and politics because we know how it ends. It fee...

Looks good. Do you have a pattern you're basing it off, or is it from scratch? I haven't yet found a good pattern for my top-half, so I'm curious what you use.

Re: Silly reasons for wearing a skirt.
I found out later that Robert immediately rang his mother and told her that he saw me wearing a skirt and I didn't seem to realise that I was (At least my effort to look normal must have worked). That's comedy gold. If it hadn't actually happened I would never beleive someone would ever think such ...

Tough one. Are you sure he identifies as "he"? Meh, he's got a beard so I'm going to go with that until evidence otherwise. Why not a simple "I like your style" as we all enjoy confirmation & a sense we may be doing something worthwhile for all the great unwashed out there y...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
I don't think I mentioned this one before: at my work there's someone who wears dresses. Well, technically. Because they look like the tunics men wore in the middle age, complete with belt and embroidery patterns. If they said they were going to a reenactment of a medieval battle afterwards you'd be...
