Re: I thought this was a good twitter thread

This is why I avoid politics - people can't see past their tribal allegiances even when they acknowledge that they are being intentionally manipulated for ratings/votes/etc... The thing that strikes me most about America is the language: people don't say "Democratic voters" or "Republican voters", ...

Re: I thought this was a good twitter thread

I really don’t think you can equate democrat with communist. The latter is way further left than democrats. I didn't say it first, they [the local Democrats] did. Right out of the horse's mouth. Wished me well as I bid them good day and hoped that " the plight of the proletariat may soften my heart...

Re: I thought this was a good twitter thread

"Woke" does not exist outside of social media. It's easy to underestimate the progressive left because they do such a good job of making themselves and their positions look foolish. followed by Of course neither of those events actually accomplished anything concrete and were more like blowing off ...

Re: I thought this was a good twitter thread

In the traditional sense, to be "liberal" was to hold to the ideals of individual liberty, and is the basis of what it means to be (or what it used to mean) a "libertarian". These days we have conservative libertarians. The two words are in direct conflict with one another. To be conservative is to...

Re: Solar powered clothes dryer... an ancient technology..

I've had experience with a very humid climate where on bad days you could hang your clothing in the sun for a day and it would still be damp. If you left it too long the clothes would just go mouldy.

I'm very happy I don't live there any more.

Re: I just don't understand...

But the fighting words are not just an issue of the right. The left has their "sacred cows" as well, and they have moved past claiming that words that hurt their feelings are "literal violence" to not parroting their views being violence. Is this for real? As far as I can tell it's a strawman. Ther...

Re: Taiwan amusement park short skirts discount

I remember a time here in the UK when only men paid to get into clubs! We had that here in some places. Because this is a technical university city that had a massive over-representation of men. So women were allowed to go in and out everywhere without paying. As more women started doing technical ...

Re: Shorts under skirts and dresses

I think we should not underestimate the impact of the mobile phone. In the sense that we gained a whole new word: upskirting. School is brutal and I can easily imagine that skorts have become more popular because of that. Yesterday I heard that children don't even want to shower directly after sport...

Re: Shorts under skirts and dresses

Any thoughts? To be honest, I feel it's rather related to the length of the skirt. Some skirts are seriously short and I can imagine opting to wear shorts underneath. I don't really feel the need to see other people's underwear. And I imagine it depends on the context (work or not for example). I k...

Re: Harvard Business Review article on non-conforming men at work

The bottom line is that there is a stigma associated with anything considered feminine, particularly in the workplace. One of the benefits I've realised now that I go back into the office regularly and it's getting warmer outside: I see all the fabulous dresses on the female colleagues. You don't s...

I don't know if this link will work: David Banda in a smart white dress (of which I am somewhat envious).

Re: "National Boycott" over childrens book at Pizza Hut

I agree that a discussion is needed, Steve, starting with the question WHY? Why do you want to wear a dress? While I understand the sentiment, I really don't think you should push for an answer. It took me 20 years to come up with an answer to that question. Expecting a 12 year old to have an answe...

Re: New here

So the skirt (the Helikon-Tex Urban Tactical Skirt PolyCotton Ribstop Black size 34) finally arrived and I'm pleased with it. The size 34 is the largest size and it fits fine on my 92-96cm waist and there's room to grow. It's got some Velcro to adjust the size but I didn't need to move it. Lots of p...

Re: "National Boycott" over childrens book at Pizza Hut

Drag, however, isn't quite the same thing. It is often an element of a VERY adult scene. It has strong sexual connotations and so it would not be something I would think is appropriate or healthy for a child. Drag is a presentation art form. There is a related adult scene, but what's happening here...

Re: The Daily Record, Wooster, Ohio

It is sad that 'justice' in so many places is skewed to the majority wishes regardless of the virtues, and if you can't pay the piper, tough luck. You have elected judges , so I think this is expected behaviour? It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his n...
