Re: What a Stalin Quote About Rigging Elections Reveals About the 2020 Election
The USA still has a ways to fall before anybody "takes it over" -- and that assumes that there's anything worth taking over. As the saying goes, why bother taking over when you can have whatever you want of theirs delivered to your doorstep? If you take over you have millions of people to keep happ...

Re: Killed for wearing a dress
I mean, especially those who hide their faces online, yet still wear skirts openly in public. Odds are favorable the person has been photographed many times, and is likely been posted online anyway. This is probably not the place to get into the differences between US and EU privacy law, but taking...

Good point. Time to re-evaluate why I feel the need to post pictures at all...moonshadow wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 8:31 pmHonestly if someone is going to be that timid, then I'd just assume they not post a photo at all.

Re: Killed for wearing a dress
I feel this thread got a little side-tracked from the original point about not posting identifiable pictures of yourself online. I find it a little scary going outside in a skirt/dress, but at no point do I feel unsafe (note: not US). That however doesn't mean I feel comfortable posting pictures of ...

Re: TEDx covers men in skirts topic
Youtube does have computer-generated English subtitles if you like. Go to Settings (the gear), subtitles. Well, it has auto-generated French subtitles which are then automatically translated into English. The result is good enough that it makes me wish I could understand it in the original language...

Re: Skirt ??????
Ha, nice! I think I'd wear that. I've always been annoyed that my t-shirts sometimes raise above my waist at the back when leaning over, and since I've gotten interested in sewing I've been thinking of making a t-shirt that's much longer to avoid this. At what point does it cease being a t-shirt and...

Re: A leap into the water
"What were you thinking?" My only answer was "I wasn't thinking, I was feeling." Wow, this is the perfect line. I have to remember this. It is a bit odd how men sometimes get a lot of flak for not 'feeling" enough, yet the moment you start acting on feelings, people get all upset. Your story is eer...

Re: Skirt Wearing by Women Increasing?
I noticed yesterday while the wearing of skirts by women here in NL is practically non-existent in the winter, the notable exception is women going to work. Naturally they are on a bike and so you see fairly tight skirts with pantyhose underneath cycling past. This is obviously just on the bit betwe...

I get the impression that Socialism and Communism are becoming confused in some ways. I think people are completely confused about socialism. From wikipedia: Socialism is a political, social and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownershi...

Re: Very O/T - A Query About Home Heating
Yep! I’ve heard of these companies that want to reclaim them - but epoxy is a chemical process, and there is no way (or no profitable way) to break them back down to their original components, hence the grinding. I’d much rather seem them repurposed as something else (shed roof? Interior design ele...

Re: Very O/T - A Query About Home Heating
Wind turbines have a limited lifetime - when they replace the blades or the entire turbine they cannot recycle the blades (it's a composite made of fiberglass and resin, not sure about the base), so they have to bury them. Just because it wasn't done before doesn't mean it can't be done. In fact, t...

Re: Toilets: Men’s, Women’s or Gender-Neutral?
At the office (which I haven't seen for a while now) we have two toilets each with two cubicles. But the gender ratio is like 15:1 so we ended up with queues, though indirectly because it consisted mostly of people standing up, walking to the loo, seeing they're full and walking back. All day long. ...

On the "like" button... I regard bits like that as trite and only effective for somebody who doesn't want to do anything other than drool on a button, Farcebook style -- and the farther this place is from Farcebook the better in my book. I don't do facebook, but I admit I've changed my mind a bit h...

Re: Toilets: Men’s, Women’s or Gender-Neutral?
At the Sydney 2000 Olympics I recall seeing the trainers with the loos lined up and there were twice as many trailers for women as for men. However, since the urinals took up less space I imagine the actual number of "places" was probably similar. I always found the arrangement kinda clever and I do...

Re: Voting Machine Problems
How would you suggest people process 150,000,000 votes in a matter of days? Vote counting is an example of an "embarrassingly parallel problem". It is literally a question of throwing more people at the problem. You already have the ballots spread geographically in the same proportion as where the ...
