Re: Another newbie (or is it newby)

Many thanks for the note, weeladdie18.

I know your part of Cornwall well, and was there almost exactly a year ago. I absolutely love it. Some of the most beautiful, albeit empty, scenery of anywhere outside of the Highlands.

All the best

David.

Sporran chain/strap/hanger ?

Greetings, all I've been wondering how to wear a sporran. I've done some reading about chains vs straps, and it seems both are "acceptable" but straps are lighter and easier on kilt fabric than possibly a chain with maybe sharp edges. But how about the hangers that I've seen on Amazon and ...

Re: Another newbie (or is it newby)

Thanks for adding your voice to the growing swell of a chorus of welcomes. Yes, there's a huge amount of resource here. Am trying to digest it in bite sized portions! As for the search function thingamabob, maybe it was to do with my new member status? Or perhaps some function call timed out due to ...

Re: Another newbie (or is it newby)

Sorry to hear you've been exiled to Oz. Although, of course, the truth which neither of us dare utter in public is that Australia is actually a marvelous place to live and with a great standard of living and quality of life. Hope you're enjoying it there - my brother lives in Melbourne and thinks th...

An "open bottom" effect. I'm scared to ask what that might be!

Re: So, kiltshopping?

That is tremendously helpful, thank you. The dimensions/measurement issue is definitely one that has been troubling me. Some places ask for four measurements, others just one. It seems an easy bet as to which supplier is likely to deliver something more or less as hoped for. How about Scottish Kilt ...

Re: So, kiltshopping?

Thank you, they've great prices on their entry-level style kilts. But I'm intrigued and entranced by the $20 sort of price on eBay kilts. I do note the sizing is very basic, so that's a worry right from the get-go, and the adage of "you get what you pay for" keeps sounding in my head. Has ...

Re: Another newbie (or is it newby)

Wow, if your mother was/is a cousin to the queen, that means you're related too.

Which means here I am, talking to a relative of the Queen. :D Next time you're visiting Buck House, can I come along too?

Seattle is a lovely area. I've been very happy here.

Re: Another newbie (or is it newby)

Thanks for the kind welcome.

As for strict rules, that's always been a challenge of mine. But I promise to be on my best behavior here. Of course.

Socks

Hi I'm going to get a traditional Scottish tartan kilt, and am wondering about socks. Two questions. Are long "walk socks" the best/only choice? Should they be in matching tartan, or white, or any color one chooses? Would appreciate any tips about sock selection. Many thanks and Sláinte Mh...

Re: So, kiltshopping?

Hi

Wondering if there are any updates to this?

Some people have mentioned buying on eBay - does anyone have links to bona fide eBay dealers?

Many thanks and Sláinte Mhath

Re: Opinions on scottishkiltshop.com

I wonder if there are any new updates on this vendor. I'm hoping to buy an inexpensive "trial" kilt. I've no idea if I'll like it or not, and I'd rather spend $50 or so on a test kilt, than $500+ on a "real" one. Are there other low price vendors as well? The Scottish Kilt Shop k...

Another newbie (or is it newby)

Hi I'm Scottish on my mother's side, born in New Zealand, and now living in the US. I often go to Scotland and have finally decided to take the plunge and wear a kilt (not a skirt, a kilt!). Beset with questions and curiosities, looking forward to learning and in time to contributing to this useful ...
