Re: Tatler

Genuine question, what can a male skirt-wearer (rather than transvestite) wear at a "black tie" do? I've been asked to attend one...Shirt/tie/black jacket, black skirt?? Deffo not wearing a kilt, kinds defeats the object in a way! Saw one of those on holiday and a group of "black tie...

Re: Article in Womenswear Daily

From towards the end of the article: While Robert said they are “a hot seller” for his direct-to-consumer business, retailers overall aren’t totally sold on the idea of male-specific skirts . In a 2023 WWD survey, many were unsure of the commercial viability, viewing them as a gimmick of sorts. “It ...

Re: Overly Flamboyant Outfits Detrimental to Mainstreaming MIS?

Meetings in some ways, to me, feel more like saying "look, I'm one of these oddballs" than rallying for something that few think of as a cause. Maybe if such Meetings made declarative statements about the virtues of MIS, it might be useful. No doubt a group of MIS gets a bit more attentio...

Re: Overly Flamboyant Outfits Detrimental to Mainstreaming MIS?

To answer the original question - I don't think a flamboyant outfit in isolation is a big deal, especially when that outfit is worn with a GENUINE approach to fashion/style and honesty of the wearer. I think things like drag do not help our cause, they send mixed messages and draw the wrong associa...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

I have, to the best of my knowledge, never been misclassified. I walk, talk and behave like a man and my clothing makes no difference to that. When randomly addressed by a stranger it is as ‘sir’, ‘mate’ or similar. I'm not doubting you, and I've only been briefly misclassified once that I was told...

Re: Overly Flamboyant Outfits Detrimental to Mainstreaming MIS?

Confidence. You need to be confident in whatever you wear. Smile, be friendly without over doing it. It has to be genuine. If you are not confident people think you are up to no good. The crazier the outfit, the more confidence is required to pull it off. Some here have it to the point they can pull...

Re: Why are Makeup, Feminine Tops Less Taboo for Men than Skirts Are?

Makeup, done well, can be really subtle. Nearly everyone you ever see on screen, from reporters to actors, is wearing some makeup for the cameras.* A little makeup to hide a scar or something could ease someone into wearing a little more. A skirt is not a subtle change. You can't ease into skirt wea...

Re: That rare male compliment

Compliments from men, in my mind, are more significant. Not because they are less common, but because they give me hope for men's skirts catching on.

Re: That rare male compliment

I thought it typically is women who are more averse to male skirt-wearing than men are. I would say women are more likely to comment on people's attire, positive or negative. Women tend to be positive, but a significant percentage are very opposed. And all it takes is one particular woman who is im...

Re: Hello from California

Welcome!

I'm with you on staying masculine, and on cosmetics. While some here wear more feminine styles, many don't. I think you'll fit in just fine here. This place isn't about crossdressing, which makes the cafe somewhat unique, and is why many of us stick around.

Re: Moving to Pensacola

I've been to Pensacola. Nice enough town, good beaches, gets hit by hurricanes occasionally. I wore a Utilikilt there with no issues. Don't remember if my time there was before or after switching to skirts for running, but I've never been bothered running either. With the military bases nearby, folk...

Re: More MIS as costumes

... I was for some reason acutely embarassed about appearing in bare feet. Men's feet have a really bad rap, and while it's gotten better, men still only have "acceptable" open toed footwear options in the most casual of circumstances. Men's feet are assumed gross and ugly, but any attemp...

Re: Male fashion freedom in movies and series set to modern times?

A single scene near the beginning of the series "Umbrella Academy" on Netflix has one of the crazier main characters (gay drug addict) wearing a skirt he swiped from a female character who is more annoyed that he took it than anything. Somewhat comic relief, but played deadpan with him giv...

Re: Hypothethical Question

It seems like a "When are you going to stop beating your wife" question which infers that you are beating your wife in the first place. Sorry to hear about that rotten statistic, Anthony, but I suspect it's on the rise in most countries where the populations are under rapidly increasing s...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

I recently attended a friend's wedding, dressed in a Mocker style Utilikilt (no cargo pockets), regular men's shirt and tie, vest, plain black long socks cuffed under my knees, and men's wing tip shoes. This was the second wedding in that family I had attended dressed like that, the prior was severa...
