Re: Icon-Icon: The men’s fashion trends for spring-summer 2023

Someone did correct their understanding of what he said on criticism number 2 on page 14: As to "non-gendered": I agree that that is questionable. But here's what he actually says: "I am old enough to remember that in school, the girls could not wear pants. Pants have now become a non-gendered artic...

Re: Icon-Icon: The men’s fashion trends for spring-summer 2023

The two main negative points as I read it were: 1. It's a sexual fetish. Mostly due to the heels and the tight fit of the skirts or their short length. Some of it was claimed to be "unprofessional" but that was likely his non-work stuff. 2. He (apparently in the article) claimed that the shirt and t...

Re: Why Men Stopped Wearing Skirts

People forget that men like beautiful things and beautiful people. All straight men go weak at the sight of a pretty girl. Surely it is natural for them to want a little of that for themselves? I had a discussion with a female coworker who told me flatly that men can't have pretty things. I don't t...

Re: The Guardian Nigeria: Masculinity And The Skirt Wave

I always used to think that any system (economic, governmental, etc.) would work with perfect people. The reason we have governments is to keep things from going awry with imperfect people. There are what could be dubbed "Christian communes" today, we just call them monasteries, convents, etc. They ...

I think gay actors were pretending to be straight publicly, but were very open about it inside the industry.

Re: Courage comes from within

If there are ladies around you then one of them maybe is prepared to tell you what your chances are. If there is no chance maybe she will tell you why. Secondly, maybe you could let your guard down and just go for it. I've said this before: we cannot wait for a green light from women. Its nor going...

Re: Guys in Skirts Fundraiser

No violence against anyone should be tolerated regardless of perpetrators. But why are you making the “save the whales” movement imply “kill the sharks”? The world needs less negativity. And less violence against anyone. There are feminists who have explicitly said "kill all men." The negativity is...

Though there’s clearly bias against homosexuals... In Hollywood?!? Don't make me laugh. Homosexuals are massively overrepresented in the entertainment industry. I have a co-worker who's son was trying to get into the arts professionally, but felt ostracized because he is straight. He moved into a s...

Re: On family and spouses "negative" reactions, emotion

I think Coder is onto something. I've had similar thoughts rolling around my head for a while. I don't think any of it is conscious for most women, but on a subconscious level things like skirts and dresses are special to at least some of them. Even if they rarely, if ever, wear them, it's still som...

Re: The Michigan Daily: A Bad Bunny masterclass: adding “sazón” to male style

Now, this isn't a competition, but some of these changes weren't that long ago. Financial independence? I am not sure what that means as there have been financially independent women for centuries. Until 1957 married women here were not considered to own anything. Anything they earned was legally t...

On the other hand, if gender is truly a social construct (not to be confused with sex), then it could be argued that clothes may indeed "have gender". Perhaps the issue these pundits are dancing around is that the very notion of what gender is seems to be in flux. In many cultures and customs over ...

Maybe what I should have said was: "Utilikilts are produced by an American company selling an American made, American designed, innovative garment that is not the "traditional Scottish kilt." I'm an American mutt. Shut up and go away...."

Re: Cultural Appropriation?

Thank you all for the reassuring comments. I appreciate you all, a lot.

The right solution: walk away. Sometimes easier said than done, but knowing when and how (and following through) are important (and very underrated) skills that I need to work on.

Re: Butchering the English Language

As far as spoken language, it's the "up talking" that gets me. When people end statements with upward inflection like it's a question. Every. Single. Time. It gets old quick, and sounds incredibly immature and lacking anything resembling confidence. In written language, it bugs me when people use p...
