Sir Garyson Perry is "just a man who likes to wear dresses"

In the latest episode of Young Again on BBC Radio 4, Kirst Young interviews Sir Grayson Perry, an artist and rebel who famously wore an Alice in Wonderland dress to an exhibition launch, and a frilly pink frock to receive his knighthood. Amongst other comments, towards the end he says (from memory, ...

I love that colour. More interesting than most of the “official” tartans.

Re: Is anyone else trying to learn a language?

I studied Spanish at the age of 40 for my job in Colombia and it was extremely difficult at that age. good luck I started Spanish in my 40s and found it very easy. I went to evening classes and got in with a group of similarly educated people, so that helped. I did the B1 certificate at 54 and the ...

Re: Heavy woollen floorsweeper

I never learned to see, which is a regret now. I did drop piano at 15 but about 10 years later was the only “pianist” available and have taken it up again (though not to the extent of lessons and serious practice). If you’re mainly interested in playing for pleasure, you can probably just pick up fa...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

Almost forgot: seen in the lobby of a Vancouver hotel a youngish man (bearded so no mistake) with green tints at the long hair ends wearing what was clearly a female style tunic over jeans and boots. The coat could also have been from across the isle - I don’t remember.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

On a magical mystery tour of foreign climes I have slipped into a skirt in the hotel in the evenings. At various times have been to reception, arranged laundry and picked up a food delivery, all with no comment (not even from my wife)

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

I drove kilted from Niagara to Montreal. In McDonald's in Grimsby [0] the janitor asked a few sensible questions about wearing a kilt, one person in a washroom asked about the tartan, and several people made favourable comments. Naturally, most just ignored me or didn't even notice. [0]I was born in...

I admitted to my spouse today that I moderate my clothing choices because I expect her to comment on anything out of the ordinary.

I also love tights. And I think thick tights with a short skirt are warmer than trousers.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

So today I decided to bite the bullet. You may remember that I do not have spousal support for skirt wearing, though she did not oppose my attendance at the London meet up in November (or was it December? Lots has happened since.) So today we were off work to pack for our big holiday. I donned my so...

Re: 1980's Pic - skirts were the norm?

I went through high school in the mid to late seventies - admittedly a boys’ grammar school. School uniform for the girls’ grammar was brown pleated midi skirt. Looking back, I think I was curious as to what that might have felt like. Anyway, back to the topic in hand: I was shocked when, in my 5th ...

Re: Before I Wore Skirts I Never...

Never enjoyed clothes shopping. Never received a compliment on my attire. I did! Whilst never way out, I always looked for something a bit unusual and often got compliments. However, as time has progressed, the range of men’s styles has contracted to the point where I don’t give it much thought. Wh...

Re: Does the dog die

Two observations: 1) Comedy will always bet at someone’s expense - and there are situations where MIS are quite funny. 2) Movies tell “real life” stories - hence they will inevitably contain various tropes about MIS.* To change that will require either some “preaching” in movies - which I wouldn’t w...
