Re: UK Parliament Speaker requiring ties...

I have no idea what the employment status of MPs is, but the speaker should get hauled up for what is a unilateral declaration of discrimination. As I understand it, our MPs are not employed. But parliamentary sessions are formal occasions, and it seems entirely reasonable to expect our representat...

Re: Red or Brown?

This sent me to the fridge to check on the Heinz Tomato Ketchup ingredients: tomatoes, spirit vinegar, sugar, salt, spice and herb extracts (contain celery), spice. Where's this? I haven't seen Ketchup without much of it being HFCS for years! The stuff one tends to get in the States is a sickly-sweet ...

Are you sure? There seems to be a vogue for it right now. Example:

Are you sure about that, SD? I'm also a G8, though inactive; and it's been my understanding that the licence is still valid even though Ofcom no longer wants to collect the fees.

Re: Men's? Unisex? Or Women's?

A half-page news item in The Times today ("Step out from the crowd in skousers") introduces a new fashion trend, the wearing of a skirt over trousers. It's illustrated by photos of a film-maker and two fashion bloggers who have been spotted thus attired -- "the height of cool right no...

Re: COVID

We threw hundreds of Covid tests away recently (work), we no longer test for Covid as it's now classed like flu (proper flu rather than "man flu"). Our stack of unused (and date-expired) tests came in handy last month when I picked up Covid at a gathering. It was much like a heavy cold fo...

Re: Things that go together

Coffee and Music DO go together :D They most certainly do. J. S. Bach performed regularly in a local coffee house in Leipzig, and wrote a miniature comic opera known as the "Coffee Cantata". ...with an enchanting aria in which the music depicts the delicious scent curling upwards from the...

Me too -- still. I'm staying in York this week with my wife for a family visit and some sightseeing. Today was (I think) the first warm, sunny day this year, and I've been out in my black walking skirt (The North Face).

Re: skirts for men

No problem with them except one, I just cannot see why there is a fixation on "skirts" being made exclusively for men. The original was called, ISTR, the Unaligned Skirt -- and although it was designed to interest men, it wasn't aimed exclusively at them. I have one of each of their three...

As an erstwhile medical student, I would do the exact opposite. My female contemporaries worked much harder than the men did. Well, mostly.

Not a pay wall, I think, but a geo-wall -- I can read it OK where I am.

This must be the Greg James who presents what sounds like a history programme for 11-year-olds on BBC Radio 4, Saturday mornings.

You may be able to delete your messaging app. But alternatively you can block individual senders, which will have fewer side-effects.
