Re: Are we engaging in fashion freedom?

I find the gay scene quite interesting where skirts MIS do not feature in any shape or form. So I don't get why, when a man wears a skirt he is assumed to be gay. In truth, I think my mum’s assumption when she saw me in a skirt the first time was actually that I was “turning” trans. I did have an i...

Re: A Formula for Successfully Selling Men's Skirts

Women come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, so do their skirts. Actually I know lots of women who would take a considerably larger dress size than I do. Must admit that I am puzzled about the sizes being a barrier unless you only associate with stick insects and feel that you have to be one t...

Re: Are we engaging in fashion freedom?

Fashion freedom doesn't imply the absence of criticism or insult, only that you have a choice, and choices have consequences. How you deal with the consequences is also a choice: you can cower in fear, shrug them off, or come out swinging. Would it be nice if everyone could wear whatever the hell th...

Re: A Formula for Successfully Selling Men's Skirts

I'm not sure what your pants size is. But you should be able to find some that fits. It may take lot's of hunting but you should be able to find something. On eBay at the very least. Just be diligent. I window shop eBay too often and now have way to many skirts because of that. I'm a size 38 to 40 ...

Re: A Formula for Successfully Selling Men's Skirts

The only formula that exists for selling something is making something the market wants. From my perspective, the main thing that prevents me from buying a "women's" skirt are the small sizes. I currently wear the largest size of Macabi skirt, and most, if not all, of the brands I've seen ...

Re: Skirts are not for attention seeking

Whether or not I want to grab attention with skirt wearing, my most attention grabbing item is actually the white cane in my hand, which has the unfortunate side effect of short circuiting the conversational abilities of people who see it ("Do you need help?" is not a greeting thank you). ...

Re: How far we've come

Have fun, step out a bit more.... don't fret about a brand or style -- just try a few things on that have a bit of appeal, once you've worn them a few times -- even around the house at first -- they will become comfortable, and off you go! [If you not noticed, I'm an advocate of thrift shops -- che...

Re: Girl talking about men’s skirts on YouTube

The person in the first video definitely rambled, but I enjoyed her passionate defence of men in skirts. And I actually finished the video without skipping.

Re: How far we've come

I don't remember the last time I actually wore shorts, only that the last time I did was because I was doing something where I was sitting cross legged and didn't want to show off my underwear. My current collection of skirts are knee-length Macabis, one for every day of the week plus one for washin...

Re: Friendliness

Hey all, long time, no see. If people give me dirty looks, I can't see them. I've never had anyone even mention my skirts since I started wearing them unless I raised the subject, except for my mum's initial reaction. :P Honestly, I think a big part of my experience is that my white cane trumps my s...

Re: Hi from Colorado

Welcome mskirt. When it comes to wearing a skirt in public for the first time, it helps when you have a skirt similar to what you already wear. For me, that was a black knee-length Macabi since my previous preference was for black or navy cargo pants. I was fortunate in the fact that I didn't have a...

Re: Newby from the north

Welcome. I started wearing skirts myself only a few months ago. Saying "f*** it" was pretty much how I worked up the courage for my first outing too, and now going out skirted is as natural as breathing for me.

Re: It really is easy

The main thing that held me back was the fear of how people I knew would react, especially my family. The non-physical and non-verbal reactions of strangers didn't enter much into my anxiety since being vision impaired I likely wouldn't have noticed them anyway. My first time out was an early mornin...

Re: Problems with parents

Well I got my skirt in the mail and showed it to my mother. As predicted, she was not happy about it. She said I couldn't wear it in public when she was with me. I felt a little deflated The bright side is that she didn't completely forbid you from wearing it. It's not much, but it's something. May...

Re: Where Do we Draw the Line ?

The place to draw the line is where you're comfortable. For myself, I don't believe I'd ever be comfortable in something with a pattern, though I do think I would be comfortable trying new, maybe brighter, colors, though maybe not pink.
