Re: Custom skirts

There is no need to go to these lengths to get a bespoke skirt. All you need to do is take your requirements to your local dressmaker. I have used three so far (two retired) and they were brilliant. You might have to source your own material and also go for a fitting. Beats doing it by post every ti...

Re: Amen Dress

I'm with Ralph on the subject of slits. I actually get dressmakers to sew them up. Interesting that there are so many reviews from men who have worn it in public - and this is not a cheap item.

Re: This is strange - or not?

I think pioneers in any field deserve a bit of credit. I remember Bowie's dress. People I the US went ballistic about it and I think he had to change the album cover. He was not dressed as a woman - he was a guy in a dress. He might not have been the first to do this, though. Jagger wore a dress at ...

Re: Skirts on the F1 Grid?

Interesting points there about hydrogen. I had naively thought it just produced water at the point of use. Wind turbines and batteries use rare earths that involve extreme pollution in the countries where they are mined. As for global net zero, even if it can achieved - and I doubt that there are en...

Re: Breaking the Gender Binary with Rob Smith | Rob Smith | TEDxCMU

In Scotland a kilt is worn with a sporran, but a sporran doesn't hold much. I have seen women without handbags but somehow it looks odd unless they are wearing trousers. Not bad odd, just unusual odd. I have heard complaints from women that a four-year old boy will have better pockets than any women...

Re: Clothes that Unite Us

If you buy women's full briefs they hold everything perfectly well. You can get plain ones in John Lewis and M&S that have no lace or pattern and are superficially indistinguishable from male briefs until you look at the label. They are made of thinner, softer material and I genuinely find them sign...

Re: What is the oldest skirt you own?

I own 999 skirts. My cataloguing system will not go beyond this so I operate a one in one out policy. Ahh, it is good to know there is some sort of limit. What cataloguing system are you using? I have 464 skirts and still going but my spreadsheet has a limit of 1,048,576 rows which is a worry. It's...

Re: What is the oldest skirt you own?

I own 999 skirts. My cataloguing system will not go beyond this so I operate a one in one out policy. I have records of skirts going back to 1984 but the oldest one I still have is from 1985. It is a long royal blue skirt with swirls round them hem from Miss Selfridge in Birmingham and it cost £8. I...

Re: How the length of a skirt can inhibit learning?

I have taught in schools with strict dress codes. The pupils found ways of expressing themselves without breaking them, imposing their own rules on the school ones. I found this quite heartening and never took part in any criticism of a pupil for what they wore. I have seen schoolgirls (who really w...

Re: What is your favourite skirt length to wear?

I prefer wearing very long (35-38") skirts as I like the swirl of the about my legs and they are more fun to wear on a windy day. Women have reprimanded me for not wearing shorter skirts as my legs look fantastic in tights with heels so I wear 21" skirts (no shorter) when I want to show off my legs....

Re: Rethinking Lingerie....

by Pdxfashionpioneer » Fri Sep 17, 2021 5:20 am So, as Carl was suggesting, if anyone else has any additional thoughts on the practical applications of lingerie, they're probably germane and acceptable. Just keep them clean. Dave, no antecedent to 'them' -- a notoriously bad double entendre; echoes...

Re: Highsnobiety: Men's Skirts Were the Real MVP at NYFW

I have the benefit of a good education but I am aware that not everyone has. They are as entitled to be here as anyone else so I never criticise. Professional writers on the other hand, should know better and if they get it wrong it is open season. Superfluous apostrophes are an abomination. I heard...

Re: Teenager wearing a dress harassed by inbred Tennessee hillbilly

You have to wonder about Tennessee, but then it includes part of the Appalachians, not thinking of Deliverance at all. In 1925 they put a teacher on trial for daring to teach evolution in a science class. In 1957 the USSR scared the life out of western science education by putting the first satellit...

Re: is this to short?

There is more to this than how the skirt-wearer feels. You also have to consider others. If anyone (male or female) wears a skirt where there underwear might be on show or people are scared it might be exposed it is too short. I can't remember if the OP was planning to wear it to church, but to my m...

Re: Presenting "as a woman"

The passing thing is overrated and hardly ever happens. In more than two decades it has only happened to me twice to my knowledge. If it happens it is a bonus but is not an objective. Another thread raised the issue of femininity. I am not aiming for this either and I would not know what feeling fem...
