Re: What makes a skirt manly v feminine

Charlie Boy has never touched it to my knowledge - he certainly hasn't been crowned with it. Was Liz your Queen? Liz's Mother was Scottish.... :) :) :) I hadn't intended to send the thread into a tailspin. Liz was different but not directly because of her mother. She loved Scotland and had a person...

Re: What makes a skirt manly v feminine

He was crowned only with the English crown, in a ceremony that confirmed him as the head of the Church of England. If he won't recognise my country I will not accept him as my king. Not that it matters anyway - a monarchy is a ridiculous if harmless anachronism in a modern country. rivegauche, As i...

Re: What makes a skirt manly v feminine

I don't think even the most westernised person sees a skirt as feminine in all cases. The kilt is seen as very masculine. The recent tour of the Pacific by the king of England (capitalisation and geographical restriction deliberate) showed men in Samoa wearing the lavalava and they looked entirely ...

Re: Bespoke suit

I notice that STEVIE's skruit also included a waistcoat, rivegauche. Though the style of the skirt in STEVIE's skruit is very different to what you have planned for your bespoke suit. I wonder whether it might be worth adding a waistcoat to your bespoke suit to give you more options? I am not reall...

Bespoke suit

Though I regard myself as a dress fiend, my log of what I wore when reveals that the item I wore most in public - apart from a green Ghost skirt - was a navy skirt suit I bought in Cambridge many years ago. The skirt no longer fits me and the jacket can't be fastened so it is time to give it to a mo...

Re: Job Titles and Gender

In parts of the UK such as Yorkshire some people address both genders as Mate. On a Facebook Group I belong to some women address each other as "Man" which is probably also Northern English, as in "Beautiful dress, man". I am not making this up.

Re: ASK SUSIE

I had been mystified by the number of women who choose to wear trousers on a hot, muggy day instead of dresses or skirts. I asked women why, and the answer was usually chub rub. There is also the ironing factor. The natural fabrics that are more comfortable in warm conditions need ironing. I have a ...

Re: Thoughts concerning silhouettes

We are all different shapes. I have been told I look better in women's clothes (meaning dresses or tops and skirts with added bosom) than in men's. I have had a professional style consultation and I am an inverted triangle, which they said was a shape that looked good in dresses - and many female mo...

Re: Where will we be in say... ten years?

I am more optimistc. I occasionally see other men in skirts in public and in Scotland it is now almost unknown for men to be refused the opportunity to try on clothes in any shop. Though there seem to be no more of us, the change in attitude has been huge. Ten years ago you had to be dressed as a wo...

Re: Skirts with splits

Unless it is a pencil skirt with a slit at the back, I won't buy it. I hate side slits. I have bought a couple of dresses with side slits and did not realise even after trying them on. I got a dressmaker to close them - that's how much I hate side slits.

Re: Assault of person in dress

I think you have to be very careful making assumptions about someone's gender if there is a suspicion that they are not the gender they are presenting. I was once in a room with a man wearing a maxi skirt and I gradually realised it was a very masculine looking woman. I hadn't done or said anything ...

Assault of person in dress

There are press reports today of an RAF man who assaulted a woman at an army ball because he thought she was a man (or a geezer) in a ballgown. He grabbed her breast. I was interested to hear that the judgement made it clear that anyone had the right to wear a ballgown to a ball if they wanted - gen...

Re: Fishnet tights challenge

I think you have to accept that certain outfits generate comments. I remember catching sight of a young woman standing with her friends, wearing goth make up, a short skirt, fishnets and high heels. I just turned to my partner and said "Wow" (not in a sexual way). If the comments were abou...
