Re: A leap into the water
Welcome to the Cafe. There is so much to understand about ourselves that it can seem overwhelming. How we feel about ourselves when we wear certain types of clothing, and how we want others to see us when we wear that clothing, can seem like an unfathomable mystery. It is a highly subjective experie...

Re: What will you wear on St. Patrick's Day?
You’ve never drunk Guinness until you’ve drunk it in Dublin. I thought everyone was exaggerating until I did myself. My own take on this is that a lot of people in the USA are more Irish than the Irish It’s a great country with very friendly pubs I can confirm this is true. Maybe it's the water . . .

Re: New member from Belgium
Welcome. A friend of ours was a native of Ghent, but has been living in the US in Seattle for many years now. I was last in Bruges 3 summers ago. Fantastic town, but we never got to Ghent which by all accounts is lovely.

Re: Boston MFA - Gender Bending Fashion
Moonshadow, I agree that changes are occuring, and not just in America. My wife and I travelled for 3 months in the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries, and a fair amount of Eastern Europe down to Greece last summer and I was sports kilted 75% of the time. I didn't receive a single negative comme...

Boston MFA - Gender Bending Fashion
Was in Boston visiting family and had the opportunity to visit the “Gender Bending Fashions” exhibit at Boston’s MFA (Museum of Fine Arts). Not a big exhibit, but some interesting tidbits of information like this one: "1864: St. Louis Ordinance No. 5421 criminalizes "cross-dressing" -...

Hello, My wife and I were in Bratislava this past July and I wore several of my kilts while we were there. I always attract a lot of attention because I am exceptionally hansome, :D although my wife says it is because of the kilts I wear. I think she is just jealouse because I get more attention tha...

My maternal grandfather, William Wallace Gray, was an animator at the Disney Studios and was hired to work on the first full length animated feature "Snow White". He also worked on Fantasia among other works but eventually was part of the 1941 strike against the studio that lead to his dep...

Victor, I am in Islington and often ride the Overground to Kew Gardens (one stop short of Richmond for those who don't know the area). I was there last weekend skirted and photographing the flowers on a gorgeous day, and had a great time. The following day I was in Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark, t...

Sikko, I have worn miniskirts (12" drop ~30cm) out in public in large cities with thousands of people around and have had no problems. My sport kilts get more attention. Material was denim to stretchy polyester, from black to light pink, from temperatures at 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Ce...

Re: Laughed at ...
My wife and I were on a day trip to Cambridge yesterday, and she made a comment that she has made many times before, "I wish I had a video camera and following behind you so you could see how many heads you turn." It annoys her sometimes that I get so much attention. However, at a crafts f...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
I Saw a guy in his 50s or 60s in a Utilikilt while I was visiting the Alhambra in Granada, Spain yesterday. He was wearing a sizeable day pack and was sporting 2 serious cameras. I was wearing my camouflage kilt at the time, but didn't approach him to ask where he was from. I have been wearing my sp...

Sasha, I have worn 12" drop miniskirts in public with no problems. I think the shorter skirts have the advantage that the silhouette is not as noticeable as a 20 - 24" drop kilt. I think subconsciously, most people think I am wearing shorts. These miniskirts were not bright in colors or ad...
