Re: Long "maxi" skirts

I have to wonder how much is related to where you work geographically. I work in a professional capacity at an international corporation where the dress code is "business casual", and it is rare to see a woman wearing a skirt much above the knee, long (ankle length) is much more common and...

Is that, custom made, home made or store bought?
Home made - did it myself. I got the fabric at Handock fabrics, but they have closed up since then. At least the one here did.

Re: 2017 starting the year out right, in a kilt

Here's another one that I wore today. This one is all forest camo. It's more typical of my other long kilts. It isn't obvious (which is the point) but it has 5 pockets on the front that fit cell phone, glasses, etc. and 2 large hand sized pockets behind for car keys, etc. And then on the inner apron...

Re: 2017 starting the year out right, in a kilt

Yeah., it looks real heavy, dead warm I'd guess? Curious about the badge on the apron, do tell! Smart, I just go lighter. Steve. It is just a cotton twill, not that heavy but certainly warmer than my knee length kilts. The Irish coat of arms is just a nod to my family heritage and I thought it woul...

Re: 2017 starting the year out right, in a kilt

Very impressive! Must be heavy though. What sort of place do you work? Not really heavy at all. It is about the same weight as some "fire hose pants" I have from Deluth Trading. I am in engineering where I encourage my team to think outside the box, break through boundries and do what &qu...

Re: Warm legs...

Tights help, but I prefer the ankle length myself. But then again, I don't like being cold. :D

Re: 2017 starting the year out right, in a kilt

Here is a long kilt I made that I wore to work today. It is my first with an actual plaid pattern, all my previous kilts have been camo or solid colors.

I did the front aprons in black because I saw a kilt somewhere done that way and liked the way it looked.

Re: Great for Men Too

The pleats ARE NOT DECORATIVE I agree with Uncle Al. I have been making and wearing kilts for 7 or 8 years and the pleats are not decorative and absolutely serve a purpose. And the idea that they should be in front instead of in back as that would somehow create more freedom of movement just doesn'...

Go cat go!!! :D :D :D

I wear utility style kilts, but never have negative reactions. Usually no reaction and sometimes really positive ones. I say, just keep rolling with it.

Re: Favourite skirts

For me, the prime mover is comfort. I exchange shorts for skirts. I have no insight into fashion so what goes with shorts should also go with skirts. The fabric is denim or twill because I like it sturdy Sounds a lot like me, comfort over fashion, function over form. Knee to ankle length, all of my...

Re: Favourite skirts

I definitely have favorites. Out and about, I often wear kilts and now that it is cold out, I have made some long "winter length" kilts that go to my ankles - love those things! Around the house, I prefer skirts or long robes with my favorites being a couple denim tiered skirts from Baby-O...

Re: Possible Sewing Machine Purchase

My wife bought me a new brother about 10 years ago, it was around $80 and did all kinds of stuff and very easy to thread and use. A couple years ago I treated myself to a new heavy duty singer and while I like the singer better, it isn't that much better than the brother. It is just heavier duty, ha...

?.. And "to my eyes that makes it a skirt! Quotation mark. I called the same garment A long kilt. The comment was made by my wife... I had the same experience. I started out making my own kilts, and when it started getting cold, I made several long kilts (my name for it) which are identical to...
