Re: Sydney Catholic school allows shorts
Schools here (UK) are required to have an anti-bullying policy. Schools that have a gender-neutral uniform policy are still required to enforce the anti-bullying policy. When my son decided he was going to wear skirts/dresses to school (as detailed in various other posts here), we spoke to the schoo...

Re: Scope Traces (for the electronics geeks here)
I always like scope traces. Out of interest, why do you pass the output through the opto isolators?

Re: Other side of the coin
It took something of a concerted effort on the part of my wife and I. I even got myself elected to the school's governing body. Then the breakthrough only occurred when the Principal retired and I was able to talk to the new about it. After the rule change came in, we had a long sit down with the Pr...

Re: Other side of the coin
When my son's school revised their uniform rules, they just removed the boys list entirely and removed the word "girls" from the girls' list, to give one list of approved clothing items for all (it's a Catholic school; girls always had the option to wear trousers), including trousers, skir...

Re: Feminism article with a twist.....
Sinned, you got there before me and you make a good point. I was just about to say that it looks like Stu and I are both going to remain convinced that the other has been brainwashed by one side or the other. I'm willing to agree to disagree and we can both collect evidence from both sides of the ar...

Re: Feminism article with a twist.....
I wonder why Brock Turner thought it was OK to sexually assault an unconscious woman. His "oh please be gentle on me" statement to the judge focussed on his manly achievements: he was on the swim team and was white and successful, and all that means that he can assault someone and (almost)...

Re: Feminism article with a twist.....
"Boys might start to realise that – gasp! – they’re not in fact another, superior species. Girls might start to question leniency extended to male people who do not in fact look or act any differently to them. We’d have to stop spouting b***ocks such as “boys will be boys” in order to justify ...

Re: Good for him!
I've mentioned in here before a couple of times that my 9-year-old prefers to wear skirts and dresses to school. He got some funny looks on day 1 but, by day 2, everything was back to normal and he's been happy ever since. We've managed to avoid any media attention at all, which is good in our book.

Re: boys banned from wearing shorts, respond by wearing skir
...For the record, my son (who is not transgender) does wear skirts and dresses to school. Not as a protest, and with no media attention whatsoever: he just prefers to dress that way. The school have been fine with it, and very supportive. He got some funny looks on day 1, but by day 2, everything ...

Re: boys banned from wearing shorts, respond by wearing skir
Don't knock it. Sure this was a protest along the lines of "we'll wear skirts and get the newspaper involved to put pressure on the school to allow shorts", but the fact that the Head was entirely sanguine with the boys showing up in skirts reflects that she is fully on-board with the gend...

Re: boys banned from wearing shorts, respond by wearing skir
The basic rationale for school uniforms is that they are a leveller. If everyone is wearing the same outfit, that does away (to a large extent) with the competition for the best clothes, which can undermine the learning of people from families with little money. In addition, the uniform makes it eas...

Re: boys banned from wearing shorts, respond by wearing skir
These have been cropping up in the news every summer for the last several years. The Metro is not famed for its quality journalism (it's a free rag given out on the Underground in London, amongst other places). Each year, the intrepid journalist describes the skirt issue as a "uniform loophole&...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I was in a pub in Cambridge (UK, not Massachusetts) last night in my full taffeta outfit (see pics-and-looks ). Having used the facilities, I waited at the top of the stairs for another patron to ascend. His eyes naturally scanned my form as he went. His comment when he reached the top? Nice boots. ...

Re: X-Kilt underway
I'm an absolute sucker for box pleats. I have made a box-pleated skirt in camouflage fabric that I have been meaning to put on pics & looks for some time. It's pleated all the way round, so isn't a kilt. It is one of my favourites, though. All of the kilts in this thread look fabulous. Well done...

Re: Boys Should be Allowed to Wear Skirts
My kindle copy of this book is starting to get a bit dog-eared and tattered. I think I'm going to have to hold it together with sticky tape before long. It's an excellent book that covers the history of how gender was taught on psychology/psychiatry courses in recent decades, and how Dr Ehrensaft's ...
