Re: Sound Familiar?

Pour the room temperature jello into a little transparent plastic bag, seal it and then nail the bag to the wall.

Re: Heavy feet.....

I agree, Downhill ski-boots probably top the weight scale. With advancing years and the proliferation of uncontrolled ski-boarders on the slopes, MOH and I invested in cross-country skis and boots. These boots, while robust and stiff, are considerably lighter than their downhill counterpart, are att...

St Patrick's Day Greeting

One of our involuntary exports, although the guy himself was Welsh. This year it coincided with the Christian Sabbath and the gathering at our local Church was a lot less dense than the crush (to be avoided) at the parade in beautiful downtown Newbridge. Weather cool, breezy and showery. No surprise...

Re: Partners

As a life-long rower I have grown used to not 'rocking the boat'... on the 'partner' front. My situation is that although I actually did my skirting well away from MOH, she found 'evidence' in the form of skirts &c left where she could find and dispose of them as she strongly disapproved. This h...

Re: Sir Garyson Perry is "just a man who likes to wear dresses"

Sir Grayson has become a respected authority on art in the UK. Only a couple of years ago the BBC commissioned him to deliver the Reith Lecture series on Radio 4 on the subject of Art.
His audience were only interested in what he had to say on the subject, not in what clothes he wore.

Re: Weather in your location ?

The last flake of snow we saw here was in March 2018. No change, and this morning March 1st we woke to a Winter Wonderland (Irish version) which predictably brought travel chaos Country-wide. The snow rapidly turned to rain and by afternoon most of it was gone. I took a few opportunist pics shortly ...

Ah yes Stu,
Remember in Shakespeare's the Merchant of Venice, Portia, acting and Judge cautioned Shylock on the 'pound of flesh' issue, that should he spill so much a one drop of blood.......&c.
Don't worry about it.

Re: Is anyone else trying to learn a language?

Very sensible, Rokje. When I was in my 40s I 'emigrated' to West Germany to work and in advance of that took about 6 months one-to-one tuition in the language. It was very helpful of course, but the steep learning curve hit me when I actually got there and most of each day was a total immersion expe...

Stu, Being retired now I'm no longer in the Medical/Dental frontline, but snippets of residual knowledge, like mud thrown at a wall, remain. Longhand description is Basal Cell Carcinoma. Common enough and well over half of skin carcinomas are these. They develop and spread very slowly and being expo...

Re: Weather in your location ?

The Samuel Beckett bridge is regularly maintained and rotated at night when there's little traffic about every two weeks, so it will function flawlessly on special occasions e.g. when the tall ships assemble. Normally no maritime traffic passes, so it stays shut. Our regular rowers are all former ch...

Re: Weather in your location ?

Carl, The cox is holding onto a rigger to steady the boat. Our no. 7 man jumped out to take that photo. We did only one 'run' to Chapelizod & back (5Km) that morning as the conditions were frankly appalling. A glorious compensation for all that is what frequently happens on nice weekend mornings...

Re: Weather in your location ?

Calm, mild and sunny. 14 deg. Centipede great for February here. Not a single flake of snow so far this Winter or for the last 5 years, but we're not through yet. I recall we had 20 inches (Half a meter) of snow in March 2018. My weekend galley-slaving was carried out in almost early Summer conditio...

Re: Miles Per Gallon

At this point I need to row in with another form of liquid propellant......Guinness. I have two large dogs which do not get on, so need to be walked separately. They each get about three miles daily. seven days a week, which works out at about 42 Statute miles. I meet up with and play bridge with an...

With your figure, Jeff, dresses are by far the best option. You need no constriction at the waist at all. I enjoy your posts and your 'dress' sense is impeccable.

I don't know why they bother, really. How they finance such gatherings/events eludes me also.
