Re: Under-skirts

Thank you for the responses.
I shall definitely look at your website pelmut, and will have another go at this when I have got some fabric or a round tablecloth.

Under-skirts

Hi all, During the lock-down I have been experimenting with some thin-ish cotton fabric I had lying around, and have made two under-skirts for wear under my lighter-weight kilts/kilt-skirts. The first one is as simple as it gets- basically two rectangles of the fabric sewn together down the side sea...

Re: kilt skirt

RMA- I sure don't want the skirt to fall off. I have used poppers for fastening one and on the other leather straps/buckles like a kilt. Neither will just fall off, but both could do with a little tweaking to make the waist tighter; an extra popper and re-positioning the straps/and or buckles will d...

kilt skirt

Hi all, This is just an update to my earlier posts about pushing the kilt/skirt envelope. As well as now owning several kilt skirts (ie women's kilts, one shortish, one longish), I have made myself a kilt/skirt that has a length of 31" which when worn towards the hips rather than the natural wa...

Re: kilt skirt

Thanks Grok.
Chirp, its good to hear that you wear long skirts without any problems. Maybe one day I will try skirts, currently just moving to kilt-skirts.

Re: kilt skirt

Hi all, Here's a quick update on my first outings in a kilt skirt. I've been out in it 5 times so far....supermarkets, petrol station, cafe and a national trust property. Reactions have been the same as if I was wearing a mans kilt, which isn't surprising really as it looks identical to a kilt unles...

Re: kilt skirt

My ebay kilt skirt has arrived. Its lovely albeit just a tad large.
I may just have to take it in a little.
But basically very pleased- its wool, light with a good pattern.
I'll post here sometime to say how its been received in public.

Re: To Kilt or not to kilt?

Stevie,
Agreed, freedom of choice is paramount.
I didn't mean to imply that kilts were the only skirts to wear, its more that I am relatively new to skirt wearing and opted for kilts to start with as the easiest way to go.
I will be wearing my first kilt skirt soon..a small step I know.

Re: To Kilt or not to kilt?

I'm with Melsav on this. Kilts don't have to be 8 yard 16oz tanks; a box-pleated kilt from lighter fabric is my choice for autumn and winter. And for spring/summer or around the house even lighter-weight PV or lighter wool without all the internal construction like a kilt skirt. I also don't wear an...

Re: kilt skirt

I have just bought a wool kilt skirt off ebay that is definitely my size, with room to grow a bit
Its 27" long, so I may take up the hem a little bit.
Exciting times!

Re: kilt skirt

Hi Gerd,
thanks for the reassurances and the pictures which are very helpful.
I guess I shall have to start scouring charity shops.

Re: kilt skirt

Hi r.m.a, If I were to alter this kilt skirt I would cut the required width off the edge of the underapron, pleat it and then insert at the middle back. It would mean unpicking some of the waistband then resewing it with the extra inches added to it covering the extra bit of fabric I would need to a...

Re: kilt skirt

Morning all. Many thanks for your welcomes and comments. Alas the kilt skirt is too small by about 3 inches around the waist. My mistake for thinking that a UK size 16 is a 36" waist. I will always ask for the waist size from now on. The upside is that it was quite cheap! I might have a go at m...

kilt skirt

Hi all, I have been wearing kilts full time for some years, but have just bought a wool kilt skirt on ebay. I'm looking forward to wearing it in public as it will be interesting to see if anyone notices the fringe on the left of the apron rather than the right side. I hope it will fit me ok so I can...

Re: Issue of men in skirts on Today show this morning

It seems that the press like to cover stories where men/boys have been discriminated against. They can't wear shorts to school/work yet women/girls can wear short skirts/dresses. But the stories are covered in a way to reinforce the stereotype that skirts/dresses are for women only and trousers/ sho...
