Re: Hello from Bayswater

I think that risley17 hails from Australia, if that's of any help at all. Maybe local slang? Google Maps couldn't find a place called Reading in Australia. So that would be the one in Berkshire, here in the UK, I suppose? The IP address is Philippines. For the record, there are several towns...

Re: No Nativity Display in Washington, DC

Here in the Philippines it is common to celebrate Christmas as both a secular and religious celebration, even in government offices. Christmas songs from the Philippines also tend to mix secular and religious themes as well.

Re: Maybe a skirt suit remedy

Hmm. Not something I'd wear unless I was a Japanese usher or museum guide. One thing to note is that the character in the picture is male, though very feminine in appearance. The costume in the link in the previous post shows male sizes as well, though apparently it was intended by the manufacturer...

Re: Maybe a skirt suit remedy

For some reason, suitcoats worn with a skirt need to be shorter than suitcoats worn with trousers. Maybe it's because skirts are usually shorter than trousers. Who knows? But it seems to be true. Or maybe not? http://s1.zerochan.net/Tsukimigusa.Oboro.600.1902319.jpg Though of course it depends on w...

Re: A little shopping help?

It would be better if sellers provide actual measurements like this one, for example. Note that while the example is a costume, it lists both men's and women's sizes for an item that is a skirt suit, which should be a good thing

Re: Mass Volountary Galley-slavery

Perhaps I pine too much for the days of X11 when one could choose a window-manager that one liked instead of sucking on the teat of some Corporate mammoth. GNU/Linux and other Unix operating systems still use X11, and provide you with a wide variety of desktop environments and window managers to ch...

Re: Photobucket

Nope. PNG does solve some of the compression issues because it's lossless, but nothing can mitigate the inevitable damage done when an image taken at one resolution is resized (scaled) to another. As a pixel artist, I am very well aware of that and that is the reason why resizing pixel art PNG pict...

Re: Dissertation research regarding men in skirts.

 Good point, Judah14. Perhaps it would be desirable to have more discussion of non-Western garments? I originally signed up here to open up a thread on malong, a kind of skirt worn by men and women in Muslim Mindanao in the Philippines, as it has not been brought up here before I signed up.

Re: Dissertation research regarding men in skirts.

Judging from various posts, it seems like virtually all members of Skirt Cafe are Westerners. So non-western clothing it not part of our heritage. Not all members here are from western countries (me for example), though my interest in skirts is primarily aesthetic, with a little cultural heritage t...

Re: Windows 10 Questions

One of the reasons why people will upgrade is that some functionalities will no longer be available. Also older version of office, i.e. office 2000 will not work under windows 7. So if your PC has given all it had, than you are forced to upgrade or go for free stuff and have all the ads bothering y...

Re: Windows 10 Questions

My biggest gripe with Microshaft is what they did to the 2007 version of Microshaft Orificr. When they switched to a ribbon and removed the menus I found everything took twice as many clicks, if you could find it at all. Even now with the 2016 version it is better than the 2007 version but still fa...

Gordon, there are about 10,000 things wrong with Lose10 and viewing pictures with it is a big one. Also I have Firefox as my default browser and it still goes to IE exploder when I click on some links and then I have to copy the address of the page I want and paste it on Firefox. I hate MicroSnot p...

I think that piece is a good example of "Testosterone Poisoning", which involves playing up masculine stereotypes to ridiculous levels.

Re: Bought my first skirt today

I just got my first LONGYI from Myanmar, had a friend bring one back for me. When he was over there earlier this year. A very simple garment. Now that I got a real one. I plan to make more of my own. If you can sew one seam 46 inches long you got yourself a Longyi. Its basicly a 81 inch long strip ...
