What a find

Found woven light weight wool, Black Watch tartan I think, enough for two kilts, for $3 at a used store, also real linen for lining if I go with it. There's just enough length to do the less-pleated design I've been looking forward to. Hope to be posting a pic soon. The design I am going for is a st...

Re: Kilt purchase

Back to the kilt, yes, I have a DMKE Highlander, it does splay out, I cure this by hanging it wet and smoothing/pinching the pleats. It's a work kilt, and no more worthy of ironing than my Carhartt pants. I also take the right snap and pull the outside skirt up one snap, the inside other side skirt ...

Re: Kilt purchase

My St. Patty's day experience is a lot of beer and shots of whiskey, but it's the Irish descended Americans who imbibe over this side of the pond, many of them Catholics. Meaning no disrespect to St. Patrick, who was a great missionary man, but in Philadelphia and Wilmington DE where we used to live...

Re: Pic of Beauty and the Kilted Beast

Excellent choice in (lack of) footwear, Max! I went barefoot back in April, it's really helped my back on which I've had several surgeries. I stand differently and don't pound down when I walk, knees are now naturally bent, legs at hips bent, and I place my foot on the ground rather than pounding h...

Re: Lungi/Dhoti/Sarong (That kind of thing)

I actually do already have one kilt (it's a 6 yard, 10 or 12oz), and I love it. Very warm and amazingly comfy, unless you're sitting very long periods of time. I do need to get better hose for it though, mine are a little thin. I don't think Scotland is quite as cold, but kilts do still seem to wor...

ello Max! Try looking at this site http://www.celticcroft.com . Bill, I think you meant to send us (or at least, Max) to this site . Have fun, Ian. I have enough lines on my face to use the skin cream. Tony, at Stillwater Kilts, told me their heavyweight 100% wool kilts are around 16 oz. Probably m...

Yes, Stuart, With an ancestral name like Donovan I regret to inform you that you do indeed have a drop or two of (dilute) Irish blood in you. I have 100% of the stuff and I don't think it's done me any harm atall, atall! Tom http://www.mandoharp.com/Other_Instruments/070229-BZ_Irish_Bouzouki_Octave...

Pic of Beauty and the Kilted Beast

taos kilt1.jpg Here's one of Beauty and the Beast. We went down to Taos, New Mexico last week for a great day and, of all things, dining at a top Italian restaurant. Also bumped into a shop owner who used to sell Utilikilts. The town was celebrating Santa Ana, New Mexico having formerly been part o...

Re: Kilt purchase

Everybody is from somewhere, and I have, on Mom's side, Sudanese roots via Israel and Welsh. On Dad's side, both Scotch-Irish, Polish, and Choctaw Indian. Seems y'all are having the same globalist agenda issues on that side of the pond as this. The destruction of our wonderful national heritages in ...

Do an internet search for tartan straight skirt. It would have to be custom made to fit a mans frame, of course.

Mike

Thanks for the info, Mike. Found this great site that breaks it all down.

Little Great Kilt? Advice and opinions please.

I wore my St. Patricks Ebay cheapo to the Cowboy Roundup yesterday, actually got a request for a photo. Due to the few, and unironed, pleats, it strangely resembles the skirt portion of the great kilt, no sharp pleat lines, but flowing material down from the sewn in waist pleats. Rather than a pleat...

One reason you'll never find me on a motorcycle.

One grand dame took my picture, asked that I posed so my .40 was in plain view. Out here in the wild west, a sidearm is more proper than even a sporran, no lie. Wild animals and outlaws.

Cheapo Ebay St. Patricks Kilt

Gonna wear it to the Monte Vista Roundup today, which is a cowboy event here in the San Luis Valley. I did a little sewing, etc. It's not traditional but it sure is light, like a great sports kilt. I got the 65/35 poly cotton. No pics, but here's the idea http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gentlemans-Kilt-St-P...
