Re: the first male skirt to meet success?

I think this thread simply exhausted the topic. There are only so many candidate designs for "the first male skirt to meet success." Or rather, the first design after kilts to meet success. I agree. While it's certainly possible to propose, "wrong," styles no mainstream man woul...

Re: Ties and skirts/kilts

I think that next week when the nippers are all back at school I will get a piece of scrap material and see what size and shape the inserts would have to be to produce a skirt that would fit me as that will determine whether ties are suitable for use at all. And take it from there. When you have ad...

Re: Ties and skirts/kilts

... So presumably I would have to deconstruct the tie and remove this lining or webbing-type material? Otherwise the tie insert would be a much thicker construct than the skirt. Maybe I should just continue my search for a cotton garment of the right colour. Buy an unpicker and a cheap pair of very...

Re: Ties and skirts/kilts

... currently needs widening for me by about 8". I have loads of ties of all colours and patterns. So I thought that I would use some of the ties to put the insert in. I have been looking for some matching cotton material ( bright blue, purple or contrasting yellow ) without success so far. An...

Hope it works O.K. It is one thing to make it myself and try to document every step, but is quite another to try following those steps Please let me know how you get on and of any improvements/errors you can spot in the instructions

Re: Plain DIY A-line skirt for beginners

That is a pretty noticeable shape of skirt, because it is flared. Straight skirts may well be mistaken for shorts, but not this one. I've taken note of your comments and added a calculator to the website so that you can alter the amount of flare by altering the length of the hem. A certain amount o...

Re: My long skirt adventure

Thanks for that, now all I need is some denim, a sewing machine and some skill! I have thought several times about getting a sewing machine, one day I will ... You could talk yourself into it by thinking "What do I stand to loose?" If it all goes wrong, you would have wasted the cost of a...

Re: My long skirt adventure

I had the strimmer out a few days ago and tried wearing a long denim skirt which I wouldn't wear out and about (pockets too small and a fish (Jesus symbol) on a pocket). ... Here's one with very large but unobtrusive pockets: DenimLong3376.JPG The tutorial for making it is at: http://www.poppyrecor...

Hitching

I've just been trying out a long denim skirt and have felt the back hem intermittently hitching in something as I walked. It turns out that it was dropping into the gap between my heel and the back of my boot, which closed up and nipped it during each stride. Presumably if the skirt were an inch sho...

Skirt panel calculator

To help with planning simple skirt patterns, I have made an online calculator which works out panel sizes from the waist, drop and hem lengths. It can be used with any reasonable number of panels and will work in inches or centimetres. http://www.poppyrecords.co.uk/dressmaking/A-line/A-lineSkirtCalc...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

One man wore the full kilt regalia at a dance in Malmesbury (Wilts, UK) last night. I don't know if his family had any Scottish connections, but his own accent was distinctly local. He said he was the ony kilt-wearer in Malmesbury and he seemed to revel in it.

I'm also a kilt/skirt wearer in Somerset (despite various attempts at re-naming it by local authorities). Welcome to SkirtCafé.
