Re: Different reactions to kilt and skirt

Pelmut, I really enjoyed reading your post! Here in the USA I find that most people call my outright skirts 'kilts'. I wear skirts about half the time, and kilts the other half of the time, I never wear pants of any kind. I think that Americans resolve the cognitive dissonance of seeing a man in a s...

Re: "Anybody can wear anything they want"

Grok, I've wonder if you are right. I see fewer and fewer women in skirts ... in fact I am often the only person in a skirt, even in a large crowd. I do think that many men don't wear skirts for the very reasons they tell me: They lack the courage or they lack the legs or both ... many who want to w...

Re: A Decade of Kilting

Grok, I think that we will come up with specific names for these new skirts. But I think that Society at large will, at best, simply add an adjective to the word, kilt. This has already begun right here in the skirting and kilting communities. Even the kilt forums have changed what used to be called...

Re: A Decade of Kilting

Thanks for all of your encouraging words, Guys, really. To answer the questions about my occupation, here's a link to a Facebook album with a narrative that explains it very well. It's public, so anyone who wants should be able to see it and read it. Admittedly, it is an advantage to be self employe...

A Decade of Kilting

I went over 10 years kilting full time last week. My first kilt was a Scottish Traditional Kilt from a Ren Fair. Then I discovered SportKilt and branched off into not just Tartan Kilts, but solids and cammos ... then even different lengths. As the years rolled by I began to experiment with male un-b...

Re: Being seen

Truth be told the term 'kilt' has been adopted by American Society as the appropriate word for any skirt worn on a man in a masculine way. Even the Rednecks at the Flea Market I was at the other day (I posted a thread about it), called my skirt a 'kilt'. I think the reason behind this is that folks ...

A flash of ass will pass, if the wind is to blame.
But flash your front, tis no fine stunt,
And the cops will call you lame.

I wore an outright skirt to work today

I've been skirting and kilting full time for nearly 10 years, but I'd never worn anything but an outright kilt to work until today. Now my kilts are definitely short (14 inches), but they are clearly kilts. Today the wind was blowing 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and, you know what, I'd just had it...

Re: Most blend in skirts

I agree, the quest to go skirted in public without being noticed is futile.

However, the ability to go skirted in public without anybody caring is almost universal.

Spot on.

Re: Most blend in skirts

When I read the topic I immediately thought that denim skirts blend in way more than any other kind of skirt I wear, as long as they are not pleated. Any pleated skirt, even short denim, illicit the 'are you Scottish' reactions (which I have gotten really tired of over the years). Like you, when I w...

Re: Men wearing skirts/women wearing pants-trousers

I don't know what any of this has to do with this thread, but since we're not even sure what category it belongs in, what the Hell! It's a good story and a good example of how the issue of gender restricted clothing endures until this day. :? Well, it gave this reader a big old grin. It's always ra...
