Re: Very O/T - A Query About Home Heating
First off, Fran, I'm on the other side of the 'pond', so UK practice may be different to US, and I'm a retired electrical engineer, not a H & V man. On the face of it, what you are considering is technically possible, but a lot will depend on local conditions. Basically, what you need to do is r...

Re: Gender-neutral school uniform collection, including a 'shirtskirt', launches in Taiwan
As a design proposal, it stands up to practicality a lot more than many other 'concept designs'. In truth the only real impracticality is the colour - we all know that wearing white is an invitation for any passing dirt to leap up and stick to it!! Also bear in mind the semi tropical nature of Taiwa...

Re: Can man look good in dress?
Jim,
I think what you have there would be called a pinafore dress on this side of the pond. Jumper over here tends to imply a (normally woolly) top half garment.

Re: Did we (men) force women to wear pants?
The advent of the 'safety bicycle' as opposed to the 'Ordinary' or 'Penny farthing' did much to encourage women to become cyclists. From there on the adoption of some form of bifurcated lower body covering was seen as prudent - the advent of the 'bloomer', named after one Amelia Bloomer. However, it...

There is also the inertia of a 'Light Rail Vehicle' aka tram. It may be 'light', but the chances are it's heavier than the average bus!!

Regarding socks - and you don't want to hear my thoughts on deliberately odd socks - what always looks odd on a man wearing shorts or a skirt are the mid calf (mens) socks pulled up as far as they will go. Make up your mind and wear a sock turned down to create an ankle sock, or wear soccer/kilt hos...

Re: what styles do you guys recommend?
Covalence, A lot of people will talk about 'invisible' denim, and a denim skirt will probably have the pockets etc that you are familiar with. My suggestions are to avoid something too short, as that will lead to 'exposure worry' - similarly, avoid tight fitting 'pencil' designs. A moderate length '...

And continuing on from Carl's observations:- There is the Welsh flag featuring a dragon rampant, and the Cornish flag comprising a white cross on a black background, and a similar one for Devon, but with a green background. But I suspect that there are various 'state' flags on the other side of the ...

I would consider both Purple Rain and Skirtcraft, but neither make them large enough for my (admittedly huge) bulk.

Re: What is this object?
I presume it is a bass recorder. These are normally around 5' (1.5m) high, and are more usually of a cylindrical cross section, resembling an orchestral bassoon.
To my ears they produce a far nicer note than the more usual descant version.

Re: What is this object?
First guess is a skirt hem marker, used to mark the desired length of a skirt. In use, the skirt is put on by the intended wearer, the marker (chalk?) is set at the desired height and the wearer either turns to mark the desired length, or an assistant runs the device around the wearer. The first is ...

For many years now, I have been coming to the conclusion that an American/British dictionary is required.
