Re: Skirts, tights, dresses and masculinity
Yes, the situation in the US is hugely concerning. That said, the rest of the world will continue to move forward as it is doing, not just in this area but in others, e.g renewable energy. It might not be much comfort right now, but eventually the US will emerge out the other side of this dark perio...

Re: Skirts, tights, dresses and masculinity
I believe that masculinity and femininity are concepts that need to be erased from society. They are as unnecessary as gendered clothing! Both need to be eliminated. People should just be themself. Masculinity created the “Man Box” and needs to be eliminated. I completely agree with you. Masculinit...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
Not all retailers have just one skirt record, using this for example. They have multi records and this can be seen by which key words that is used in search. No, there's likely one "SKU" (or "stock unit number") per garment with an added component for apparel to account for size...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
I disagree with you on the cause of high return rates. The central problem is that fashion still predominantly works on grossly simplified approximations of body shapes, assuming 1 for men and 1 for women (hourglass) dating back to the 1950s: The reality today is very different: there are about 6-10...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
The point here is not what it costs per mea/giga/tera - byte of space, but rather the societal perspective of what's acceptable. Right now, from that perspective, guys wearing skirts are not accepted, and hence there will be no "pull" (read, "market") for men's skirts. Full stop...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
That combination is what accelerates change. Urban Outfitters hasn’t fully delivered inclusive sizing, but by introducing “Everyone” they’ve publicly revealed a commercial opportunity in gender-inclusive fashion. That signal is likely to push other retailers further than Urban itself has gone. Only...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
Once a mid-market chain does something, it changes perception: Before: niche / subculture After: retail category That’s a threshold moment. Urban has effectively said: Gender-inclusive fashion belongs in mainstream retail space Even if the garments lag behind in sizing. They haven’t gone far enough ...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
I guess I am not worried by any of this gender inclusive stuff from what ever direction it is comming from or for whatever reason. I currently live in a country where the laws are such that I am free and protected to wear whatever I like from the clothes available under any label. I revel in being ...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
I think we have to be real. Some of UOs customers are traditional men and women, who just want to get to appropriate trousers and put them in their basket and hit buy. UO have to be careful that they are adding customers by this inclusive move, while not loosing their current customers. I applaud t...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
What I find astonishing on this group is the negativity displayed. This is significant. Is it absolutely perfect what they have done? No. But it’s signalling intent and it’s an important step in the right direction. The end game isn’t men’s skirts, it’s just skirts. For anyone. Fashion has to restru...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
You can now get to skirts from the inclusive "everyone" tab. And when you select a skirt, the tile of the skirt never has the word "woman". However the tab and the website link will show that you are now under the "woman's" tab. But when you return to search, you are b...

Re: Urban has gone gender inclusive
Yes, the models are female, but that doesn’t really matter. It’s the intent that matters. It signals an incredibly important point to men: permission. That should not be underestimated.

Re: Language for Men's Skirts and Skirted Men
I disagree. Men and women come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, there is no “standard” men’s and women’s body shape. This has been the entire problem that the fashion industry has perpetuated, using idealised mannequins to create clothes for men and women and that has caused immense problems f...

Re: Language for Men's Skirts and Skirted Men
Language for “men’s skirts”? How about just skirts? Because this is the entire problem: the assumption that clothes have a gender. They don’t, people do. I find it amazing on this forum how some people have such hangups about masculinity and femininity. The truth: it’s all made up nonsense. There is...
