Re: Dress

"Pinafore" was the way I learnt it when I was little, and so it is the way I say it here in Yankeeland as well. In addition to "jumper dress", you might also try "tank dress". There are a number of Mennonite families in my area, and I have always admired their modest dresses. As a child of the 50's ...

Re: Pre Loved Shoes

I absolutely cannot wear pointy shoes, but I recently tried. My wife and I were going through the discount bin at Walmart and they had some nice-looking flats marked down to $3/pair. In men's shoes I wear about a 9 wide, which after some experimentation I have discovered works out to about an 8 extr...

Re: Womens underwear

I dont wish to be a women, but i think that womens underwear is much more comfortable, and Put that with a short skirt on a hot day... Soceity really screws us guys... I thinks this topic goes against the board rules, we do not discuss underwear garments on here. :D :D :D I cannot tell if this disc...

Re: "What was up with those giant Victorian skirts?"

I would very much love to wear a giant skirt with crinoline, but they were indeed meant more for appearance than practicality or comfort. I did find some videos explaining how to sit in one (apparently the hoops are bendy enough to let you sit on them, and the gaps between hoops allow the whole cont...

Killed for wearing a dress

Occasionally when I post photos of what I'm wearing, I'll get comments about the fact that I replace my face with a cartoony caricature. This is why. Of course this is a welcoming, understanding community but nothing you post on the internet ever remains private. I live in an extremely conservative,...

Re: OnlyMaker.Com

Meh. Their flats are all pointy-toed, no good for my huge arthritic feet.

Re: Vintage dresses

Sticking with the vintage dress thing but a little away from the original idea, does anyone on here show any interest in Victorian era dresses with the bustles and layers etc.... Just curious? Quite so! Again, we have the dual problem of being unable to find something that is both in my price range...

Re: Vintage dresses

I'd gladly exceed my usual price point for a dress if I could find an old Gunne Sax dress that would fit me. They're full length dresses that were quite popular in the 80's. They look like costumes from "Little House on the Prairie." A friend who worked in womenswear in one of the better department...

Re: Vintage dresses

I absolutely love vintage dresses, from the 19th century to the mid-50's. When I post pictures of my favourites, people often remark along the lines of "That looks like something my grandmother would wear!" But finding something in my price range and size can be a bit of a challenge. This site's ide...

Re: Gucci Dress for Men

But looking at the broader picture is it not a positive gesture that fashion houses are beginning to produce such attire for men. Perhaps they didn't get it right this time, give them a chance and they might next time? Not the way I see it, no. Stuff like that is deliberately designed to be so shoc...

Re: 2020 Emmy Awards.

I used to be a sock wearer 100% of the daytime, but the past few summers in the lower Rockies have gotten so hot that even thin nylons are too hot for my feet. This leaves me in a dilemma, because I hate going sockless. I worry that my sweaty feet will make my shoes - whether suede loafers, or sneak...

Re: Our Wedding Both in Dress

That's awesome! Sadly, Mrs. Ralph although "long-suffering" and uncritical of my clothing choices does not go so far as to encourage or participate, and both our families are painfully hostile to anything they perceive as nontraditional gender expression.

Did you get any pushback from family?

Re: Even ladies shoes .

What is the point of pointy shoes? I've never seen anyone's feet shaped like that. It would seem to just uncomfortably and unhealthily squeeze one's toes together. That is exactly why I only wear round/square toe shoes, preferably in extra-wide. The first place I developed arthritis was in the "knu...

Re: The Brokini

In a word, no. In several words, hell no please make it stop. Oh, the pain. My eyes! I do have a fondness for a smooth, solid-colored tank style one-piece (aka maillot), but unless I'm looking to get into an argument and/or a fight I usually just wear cheap generic men's trunks out in public. Either...
