Re: Northern NJ....

I was wearing a pleated Tartan (black/white and some red) skirt 2" above the knee, with a black England T-shirt, black boots and socks. Went to Panera bread and Walmart. No issues. In fact people were very nice. A lady opened the door for me at Panera. Even if you do not wear a formal kilt, I ...

Re: Our Environment!

In good weather and quiet traffic that would get me to the nearest big shopping centre and back, but in winter with a heater, headlights and wipers going, or in hot weather with air conditioning working hard, I would need to have a fossil fuel powered generator in the boot to recharge on the hoof! ...

...and using an electric lawn-mower instead of a gas one merely relocates the emissions from the (admittedly low-efficiency) mower engine to a big old power plant possibly thousands of miles away and doesn't take into account the inevitable electrical losses involved in transmission (which escape a...

As an example; when the hydrogen fuel cell cars were first being delveloped they extrated hydrogen out of the atmosphere. But big oil lobbied congress and made sure that poduction models had to have hydrogen tanks for filling. In other words, you can't buy a car that runs for free. You have to keep...

Re: The original size of a kilt.

I've searched for this answer but haven't found it yet so maybe someone knows for sure. What size were the original kilts? I've heard that "the whole nine yards refers to kilts. And then I read that kilts were 12 yards long. But how wide were they. Were they a yard wide too? Which would have m...

Re: Quiet?

The issue here is that potential Facebook users, who might want to "like" (become a fan) a SkirtCafe page, will be painfully aware that their interest will become very public immediately. This can be beyond an issue of coming out to friends and family, but it is well reported that some em...

Re: REI outdoors retailer selling kilts

so if you could fit this size I could do you a damn good deal on it. Let me know your thoughts. I guess those comments mean they are closing the line out completely. :blue: Actually, no. I think it just means that the UK distributor under discussion (Bradshaw Taylor) didn't sell any, so they aren't...

Re: REI outdoors retailer selling kilts

I'd be very tempted to get one myself, except that it's only available in the USA as far as I can tell, and the suppliers all charge horrendous prices (like 50 dollars) for postage to Europe. If I ever visit America, it will be on the top of my shopping list. You could try: Denmark, Eire, Greenland...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

A good movie to check out for long skirt and petticoats usages is "Gangs of New York" starring Cameron Diaz, Leo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis in the main roles. She changed her dresses and skirts (with underskirts and petticoats all the time) on a regular basis. There were also plenty of...

Re: Minor bragging rights

Today marks an anniversary of minor historical note in the world of computing -- the opening up of the ".com" notion to public companies on the (then nascent) Internet. The obligatory link tells the story. Why bragging rights? Take a look at the credits for the photograph. 8) Congratulati...
