Re: Sydney NSW School adopting a gender-neutral Uniform

I agree with those who point out that the cut of a skirt for a schoolgirl need not be any different to that which would fit a schoolboy - and the same would apply to dresses up to around puberty. The acid test for me will be how school skirts in this part of Australia are marketed. My guess is that ...

Re: Sydney NSW School adopting a gender-neutral Uniform

The article specifically said that the skirts and dresses were cut for both males and females. You believe that? They are going to make some changes to the designs of skirts and dresses so they will fit boys? Sorry, I don't buy it. First, they don't actually need to as we are talking about children...

Re: Sydney NSW School adopting a gender-neutral Uniform

Unfortunately, this is just a way of (a) giving girls more choice and (b) accommodating trans girls. They pretty much say that, again associating skirts with girls, and with boys who want to be considered as girls, thus reinforcing the idea that skirt = female . Those biological boys who are going t...

Re: How far we've come

"then shortly thereafter asked me what my preferred pronouns were. " This question does annoy me because people have names but they don't have pronouns. The choice of pronoun is determined not by the person referred to, but the grammar of the language and the semantic reality of the speaker. I have...

Re: Telegraph fashion podcast

The problem we have is that they are all enthusiastic about the idea of men wearing skirts - in principle - but so long as it's not the men who are their husbands or boyfriends.

Re: Coffee at the café.

Being a Brit who lived for many years in Sweden, I now enjoy the best of both world. I drink British tea, which is fairly strong with a splash of milk, unlike the milk-less, fruit-flavoured weak stuff they offer in Sweden. But I drink Continental-style coffee, made by selecting the right coffee bean...

Re: Boys told not to cross-dress because it's not "normal"

That's your right, however I'd be grateful they liberated themselves when they did, otherwise you'd likely be forbidden to wear skirts today, and you certainly wouldn't be allowed to be an atheist. There was another group who tired of the "liberal" Church of England, they set sail for Massachusetts...

Re: Boys told not to cross-dress because it's not "normal"

With regard to the God debate, it's not something I want to get into. I am an atheist, but not an anti-theist. If someone's belief in an Almighty entity bring them comfort or offer them meaning in their lives, then of course they should be free to follow their beliefs without others criticising them...

Re: Boys told not to cross-dress because it's not "normal"

I suppose it boils down to what is meant by "cross dressing". In my book, it means comprehensively making one's appearance such that they would be identified as the opposite sex and are adapting their appearance accordingly. By definition, it is not "normal" to want to be identified as the opposite ...

Re: Tesco man employee wears skirts at work

I note what Stevie says and I agree with every word. However, when it boils down to it, the only reason this is newsworthy is that it is unfashionable for men to wear skirts in modern western culture. That is the only reason - there is no logical objection. All we are doing on here is making a case ...

Re: Tesco man employee wears skirts at work

The only reason male employees don't have a skirt option when it comes to uniform is that it is not fashionable for males to wear skirts. I can't think of any other reason.

Re: Sporran with Trousers

Thanks for the info. I was just curious as I believe "sporran" literally means "purse" (from Gaelic, I believe) and I see no reason why a guy shouldn't use one with trousers if he wants.

Sporran with Trousers

While walking my dog today, I saw another dog walker, male, approaching me wearing what appeared to be a sporran - with trousers. When close enough, I realised that it was probably some kind of "bum bag" (fanny pack) that was loosely fastened and ganging around his groin area. That got me wondering ...

Re: Girl talking about men’s skirts on YouTube

I wish I was a sociologist or really any sort of PHD'd '*ist', because then I could tell you with with conviction that "this is all human nature, it's how we evolved from early on". Unfortunately it's just a gut feeling for me - that people are like this because of the way people's minds work - and...
