Men who wear skirts generally need to have two sets of clothes - one set to go with their trousers when they wear them and one set to go with their skirts when they wear them.
This depends on one's aesthetic. I wear precisely the same shirts, waistcoats, and shoes when I'm wearing a skirt as when I'm wearing trousers. Now, I can get away with that because most of my clothes are geared towards a reasonably professional look, and I'm after pretty much the same look when I'm wearing a skirt. So, in my case, it is quite literally just swapping out the trousers for the skirt and making sure everything else "goes".

The only difference would be legwear, and even then, only occasionally. For the most part, I've retired the older style of socks I used to wear (mid-to-lower calf-length black and navy ones that looked positively awful under a skirt) in favour of more skirt-friendly styles. If it's cold, I'll wear opaque tights for warmth even under trousers (although I won't wear sheers that way), and I've found that knee-high hosiery works just fine for either longer skirts or trousers.

The way I do it may not work for you (a hypothetical "you", not a specific you! ;)); your aesthetic is quite likely different from mine, and you'll need to pick your way along your own path. Whatever that path is, do enjoy it a long the way.

Since I don't like the look of sheer or semi-sheer hosiery, and don't like to wear tights unless I have to, my preference is for long socks, usually in bright colors.

I mainly buy Sock-Dreams over-the-knee ("O Basics" and their relatives) or thigh-high socks ("Super M" or "Super Basics"). Since socks won't stay up above my knees, I tend to fold them down, so they're sort of like kilt socks. I tend to buy a lot at once, since as soon as they find out I like something, they discontinue it :( These are all mostly-cotton socks. I tried the N-40's (nylon), but they are just too tight to get over my calves.

I wish I could find another supplier for long socks, but I guess one is better than none.

I've tried to buy some decent long socks (knee length) here in the UK but have been unable to find any - except football socks - and I'm not wearing those! Kilt socks are a bit boring - I want something brighter.

Long socks for women don't usually fit me - although I do have one fine (thin) black knee length pair.

I'd like to buy lots of knee length socks in bright colours etc. - as that's the sort of thing I like. Does anyone have an idea of where I can get them? - in the UK preferably.

Just buy women's over-the-knee socks. On most guys, they're knee socks.

Great minds think alike! Why have two separate wardrobes when you can buy shirts stylish enough or dressy enough to wear with a skirt? I go that path as well as I have to look nice when at work, so swapping out pants for a skirt and keeping the same shirt is easy for me as well. I also sport hosiery as it evens out my skin tone and, from purely an ego standpoint, it makes me legs look great! Heh!

Hallo Christopher, you'd think that there should be amole long socks there, how about Burlinton socks? They go to a size 41 (european ) which is about a 7 or 71/2 , a small men's size. In the men's socks they are larger ofcourse. They have many nice patterns and colours. Also horse riding socks could be a choice. Oroblu have very nice long socks as well. Have you been to a panty / hosery specialist shop?

Over here in the Netherlands, we can buy knee high or overknie nearly everywhere, and they are in bland colours as well as vivid colours.

I bet many guys don't dare having colour or patterns on their legs, but it really is great. Looks good. If you step away from the blandness of pants, then do it well, and try some colour, in most cases it should be enjoyable.

You could also try internet shops.

PS. I knew a shop assistent in AUS back in the early 70's, and she was as slender as you, she wore minis so short that if she had worn a belt over them, you wouldn't see them  :P :P . But it looked really good, so it's not strange to me that short skirts look good on you.
A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.
