Hayseed here. New to S.D. but not to skirts. I'm partial to "big skirts" such as mid-19th century Victorian. Once I figure out how to re-size photos to get under the 32 KB limit, I'll post a pic as my avatar.

Hi Hayseed, welcome to the cafe. I also love the big skirts from the last century. There are a number of us who have tried long skirts with petticoats or hoops in public.

In my case I had a blast running around central London in a white skirt with a large petticoat which was started by a discussion in the cafe http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtop ... 49#p262949 about how hard it was to wear a long white skirt in the city. Still trying to figure out how the board works. Just tried posting a photo but got a file size too large error message. The photo is 560 KB and the attachment tab says file size must be less than 760 KB so it should have worked but it didn't. So what is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size is the 76 kB number. The secret is when resizing photos to do it in pixels not inches or centimetres. A maximum pixel count of 800 along the longest dimension will almost always fit.

Note that the size of an avatar is limited to about 150 pixels on the long axis.

Okay, until I can get my photos resized . . .

I live on a 10 acre farmstead and have several photos of myself posing alongside typical farm machinery - tractor, windrow machine, thresher, hay baler . . . In one I am wearing a skirt from recollections.biz. This company markets historical era clothing. From their (American) Civil War collection, check out the "Sarah Emma Civil War" skirt. I usually wear it with their extra-full crinoline and maybe one other crinoline to give it even more pouf.

Like I said, I like - no, love - big skirts.

I have been out "in the wild" on several occasions wearing this outfit, both in Washington state where I lived before moving here to South Dakota a couple of years ago, and also in S.D.

Nice. I also tend towards Victorian-era stuff, but more towards the later years. Hence, I'm very familiar with petticoats and the like and very long skirts. I also drift forward into the Edwardian era.

I also love the look of Victorian era skirts and dresses, I don't own any unfortunately.

This is really frustrating. I am in a very rural area and have no home internet, so I'm using the computer in the public library. It is very primitive - the online photo re-sizing sites seem to require some kind of app which this machine does not have. I might have to re-shoot the photo or try Flickr or something.

Oh, Yeah, a public computer might be harder. The web sites should not require any apps, but might require permissions that are restricted. Might be easier to do at a cafe with WiFi on a phone/laptop instead. Many cafes and other public venues have free WiFi.

Funny thing, I also live out in the sticks but got fiber optic internet before many of my friends living in the capital city. My town just decided fast, reliable internet was a requirement for the future and made sure that everyone got access. They closed down the copper net so both internet, phone and tv goes over fiber.

Welcome,Hayseed! We don't often get visits from the 20th century! Or should that be the 19th? Either way, I hope you continue to enjoy wearing your skirts and showing the world that men can wear skirts.

I don't know your situation, but I have fitted Starlink from Space X to a couple of my clients who live in isolated places. Totally transformed their online lives from in one case 0.9Mbits/sec using a bit of string across many fields to 200Mbits/sec from Starlink.

I am right now wearing one of my mid-19th century Victorian skirts while using the computer at the public library. On the way here, I stopped by the utility company and paid my electric bill. Later, I will have lunch at a restaurant in town. So, yes, I am continuing to wear my skirts!

I'm setting aside this problem for the moment. The thing is, the only way I could take pictures anyway is with the auto-timer on my camera and that is pretty kludgy. Best solution is to find someone other than me to take the pictures. That solves the upload problem and, at the same time, expands the range of photos. In short, we'll get there - eventually.
