J.D. Vance and the "male bulge"

According to a report of an interview he did with Joe Rogan (no idea who he is!) (https://edition.cnn.com/2024/10/31/poli ... index.html)

'Vance also described a conversation he had with a “very conservative” woman from Mississippi while at the Paris Air Show on a congressional delegation trip about how she believed Paris was more conservative than some United States cities and her experience seeing a man’s genitalia in a miniskirt.

“Oh my God, this is not, this is not empowerment. This is not respecting lifestyle choices. We’re letting a grown man walk around in a mini skirt in broad daylight,” Vance said. “If that’s what you’re doing, you’re a pervert. And I want, I want all of us to say, whatever your political persuasion, just say, ‘No, that’s weird, right?’ You’re not allowed to walk down the street and flash children in the middle of the world’s or the America’s biggest city.”'

Just saying... ;-)

Just a suggestion. Perhaps we could create a topic "Utterances from Bigots" and put all these stories there rather than starting a new topic for each one. Then it would be easier for members who wish to avoid reading this stuff.

I am referring to the subject matter ........... certainly not persons posting on these threads.

Before I address @denimmini's post, let me just say that it's not surprising that a ridiculous conservative would have a ridiculous take about MiS. I already caught wind of what he had to say about men wearing miniskirts just by surfing the News tab on Google. I didn't think much of it until this thread was made, and it's just as absurd as what I'd expect from people like J.D. Vance.

Basically, Vance says men shouldn't wear short skirts based on an anecdote from some woman seeing a man flashing his genitals (even when it wasn't really flashing, but just a protrusion of male anatomy) while wearing a miniskirt in Paris. Why not extend that to everyone, instead of just a specific sex? Operating on double standards, are you, J.D.? Do you realize how often women reveal themselves in such attire?

The biggest irony here is you can find old photos of Vance, in drag, just by typing "jd vance skirt" in a search engine. Oops. I guess we can (unsurprisingly) add hypocrisy to the list...

I second this. It's be much easier to distinguish between the vile sludge from no-nothings to actual news about progress.

Just your typical right wing bluster from their favorite scape goat.... transgender women.

It's as predictable as the sunrise.

FWIW however, we should always take care to not be inappropriate when wearing skirts regardless of who's in power. Revealing genitalia gives us all a had image, and right now people are looking for any reason they can to shut people like us down. The people have spoken.... they want "normal" again. If you're not normal... sucks for you. Your rights don't matter.

If they start passing laws against men in skirts, then I'm going to start making noise about women in pants.

Fair is fair.

I'll be right there with you.

Does anyone think bans like this could push men into skirts? I often wonder if it would cause a sizable amount of leftist men to wear a skirt symbolically - for how long who knows - but it could get interesting. Honestly, though, I don't think we have drifted that far for this to be in our future. Then again, I do pray our clothing never gets politicized (even though it is to some degree).

No I don't. Men will just look the other way and say "not me".
The only thing that will change the tide of acceptably for MIS is a a major shift in gender values. Most likely coming from the young, who don't care what older people values are and will take there own standards in adulthood.

Oddly enough, it seems the social angst is with transgender women at the moment. Most right wing people I've talked to will at least abide a man in a skirt... provided he doesn't start calling himself a woman.

As long as we're not trying to enter into women's facilities or functions, it seems we might be okay.... for now.

The only remaining issue might be certain businesses refusing service for some goofy religious reasons, but I'm actually okay with this... I'd hate to spend my hard earned money on an establishment that doesn't really want my business.

I quite like this notion. It makes good sense. Why support those who would bring you down? Let them broadcast who is not welcome. 'Tis their loss.

I've not had any problems -- yet -- with right-wingers, but the day, as they say, is young. We shall see what happens. I can argue down anybody other than outright members of "The Church" who remain somewhat capable of reason.

Note: I know I am sailing quite close to the wind here, and there have already been veiled threats to "cancel" me. If that happens, Bob/Elizabeth will need to find a new Master Barista.

I swear that's half the problem. facebook's men in skirts posts are riddled pics of some guy wearing hazardously short miniskirts. Often the overtly girly-fetishy type too. Such things add fuel to the fire.

Same goes for reddit’s r/Menskirts, though it has gotten cleaned up a bit.

My read of the article was that it wasn't the inadvertent "male bulge" showing through, but a completely uncovered member under a dangerously short skirt resulting (intentionally or not) in actual flashing.

Guys, just leave the regimental kilt wearing to the actual kilts (if that), and be mindful of the fact that we may need more (or heavier) material to cover what we have down there than the ladies do. A few extra inches of skirt doesn't hurt (it doesn't take much), and don't go commando. That's not being a prude, that's a practical admission of anatomy combined with being a good ambassador for men in skirts.

It's unfortunate, but women tend to get more of a pass, because they are women. Don't assume we can get away with everything they do. Our situation is different. And some of what we see women wear gets negative comments from the conservative crowd as well. They get away with it because they are women. We are under greater scrutiny.

This has been my experience as well. I've won over many very conservative folks (both politically and religiously so) with a solidly masculine or neutral (not feminine) presentation, and something in common on things they care more about than clothes (which is usually most things).

Have something, anything, in common with someone, and don't be obnoxious or threatening about your differences, and you have a friend in the making.

This dovetails beautifully with my philosophy that there is vastly more that unites us than divides us. Disagreements can -- and should -- be handled amicably rather than resorting to shouting, name-calling, or violence.

I think the details of the incident in the article are unclear - I think it could just as easily be read that the woman could see that the man had genitalia under the skirt, although the same can be the case with trousers. (If anyone saw the episode of Strictly Come Dancing with Pete Wicks in pink trousers, you'd know what I mean!)
I think I was more concerned with the actual quote from the man who's about to become VP of the USA: "We’re letting a grown man walk around in a mini skirt in broad daylight. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re a pervert."
