A bit long winded, but interesting. The key word for me was “permission”.

The Chanel jacket and skirt look good and, as the article says, they can be masculinised. Why can't we buy such outfits for guys from mainstream outlets?

Stu, that would be because the money isn't flowing in their direction.
Steve..

It may also have been that the skirt-suit may have come through a vintage/consignment shop and isn't in production today. Skirt-suits are largely obsolete in the modern world as everything has been "butched up".
But, yes, a nice skirt-suit is truly a thing of beauty, and I hope to acquire one someday. Given my size, it'll have to be a custom job though -- and very, very pricey.

Looking at the various images.....
One shows a man in what appears to be a skirt suit. Short jacket paired with a long skirt. Something seems a bit...off...at first glance. The proportions don't work.
Somebody posted an image of a young man in Japan, wearing a sort of skirt suit. In terms of proportion, it worked in pairing a longer jacket with a longer skirt.
BTW, it looks sloppy if the bottom of the shirt is visible from beneath the jacket.

In the long run, fashion may change. Eventually, people may become thoroughly sick and tired of todays drab clothing.
I recall something once said in regards to fashion-"everything old is new again."
Though I guess that wouldn't apply to a skirt suit intended for a man.

That is the Skroot BM.
Skirt suit specifically made for a guy, me.
Cost about £200 in total, so not a killer.
All I proved was that it is possible.
Steve.

Here is STEVIE's thread on the Skruit.
I think that it looks very smart.

Yes, March 2022.

My immediate subjective reaction is that this shows that a man can look good in a skirt suit specifically intended for him.
A longer jacket looks proportional with a longer skirt.
A skirt suit intended for a man needn't look the same as a woman's skirt suit. I tend to think of a woman suit having a knee length straight skirt, and a short jacket.
A skirt that flares outward can look proportional to a mans broad shoulders.
It is easy to imagine his outfit but in different colors. Dark blue, for example.

Why be so restrained? Why not a vivid scarlet -- or, to be even more subversive, a nice but subtle floral? Why NOT?

That color was the first thing that came to mind. There are a number of possibilities.
And in a sense, a skirt suit for men is, at this point, almost a blank slate. Other than the garments being coordinated. And hopefully, with a sense of style.

Absolutely! If memory serves, Stevie's original spelling was "The Skruit" as in a crass, but apropos, cross between skirt and suit. I'd have done the thing in a burgundy or some other shade of red -- but that's just me. He commissioned the thing, so he owns it not me, but it was a darned good effort, and kudos to him!
What, ultimately, would be wrong with a blazer in a floral print? Really. Do any of us think that it'd bring the world to an end and make the sky fall? I think not.
Sometimes it really pays to "think outside the box". (Unless, of course, it's a guy looking for a romantic partner...) ((Damn.))
