Surprise Entertainment

I was up in Dublin Sunday morning for a rowing outing followed by a large breakfast at a favoured eatery. Lovely fine morning and I wandered into Town to look around. To my surprise I was entertained to a very fine display of piping by a little group from Clew Bay....about as far West on this little island as you can go. There they were all kitted & kilted up playing their hearts out in the confined little warren streets of Temple Bar, a magnet for unsuspecting tourists. Well, they got their money's worth yesterday.

Well that certainly topped off a good day for you.

What is the person on the far right of the photo wearing, looks like a very short skirt or shorts?

Good question, BC. In that little quarter, full of pubs & clubs &c. the young things seen on the streets are mostly wearing all sorts of strange gear. That kid unusually for January was wearing low-denim no. barely black tights and Lord knows what else...Skort, shorts, tunic? Frankly I didn't take any notice of her at all and her appearance in the pic. is peripheral.

Being moderately musical I can detect really good piping when I hear it and that's what I was interested in.

Excellent picture, with the background nicely defocused to give your subject prominence :-)

Thanks, Geron.
Canon SLR. long-ish lens: 100mm foreshortens street. Auto focus of course, but large aperture to light faces against the pallid January mid-day hazy 'sunshine'... vague shadows on cobbles. Short depth of focus results, blurring background, but you know all that anyway.

Kilt colour came out well, but I don't know what tartan as I didn't ask anyone. The group are from Westport, Co. Mayo, some 150 mles from Dublin.

Thank you for your splendid input, Pleated. Now the Forum punters know what they sound like. I for my sins knew nothing about them until I was gobsmacked yesterday.

I noticed the kilts are pleated to Military, Knife-Pleat, specifications.
They are not pleated 'To Set'.
They sound really good :D

Tried to find the "Tartan" but it is not the County Mayo tartan.
It could be specially designed for the Pipe Band.

What ever as far as the tartan goes, but the music was great.
I could listen to them all day long. But then again I love the pipes and drums, I have several CD's of them that get played A LOT.
