I found this video on You Tube of a man wearing a Utilikilt receciving a pat down by a TSA agent in a US airport. Do not know when it was filmed.

The agent seemed to know what he was doing and went about it the right way.

But what a business!
Would it not have been easier just to take the garment off?
My kilts have never needed patting down, but if there are metal buckles, it usually means going through the gate two or three times.

Yes, the buckles definitely seem to attract scrutiny. I suppose it's because the usual pattern is not to have any metal there, and the buckles might be masking a weapon.

Depends on if he was wearing on underneath

I once told a TSA screener who was having me pose in various contortions to "just save us both a bunch of time and lift it up and look. Its all G-rated under there..."
"You can move along now, Sir..."

Too good. Someone somewhere about 3 years ago suggested going regimental through TSA. The searching agent didn't seem to balk whatsoever, but the lady agent off camera sure was put off. The cameraman was the brave one here.

I've gone regimental through TSA a number of times and it's never been a problem. They do a little more wanding and patting than when I'm wearing pants but no big deal.
And by, "wanding," I mean the handheld metal detector, not...

I sometimes wear a piece of jewelry that might earn me a more, um,
thorough inspection, but OTOH, I rarely fly (have not done so in over 30 years) and prefer to avoid airports if at all possible.

That had to hurt. Unless you partook of a non-narcotic analgesic commonly sold in pubs everywhere.

Perhaps a bit, but not especially more than any other piercing, surprisingly.
