Friday Afternoon in a kilt

Post by Miket »

What better to wear as I drove back from the Brighton to my home in Dorset last Friday, than my khaki canvas kilt.

It was a hot day and the traffic was very heavy, so I decided to stop at Sainsbury's in Worthing to buy some provisions for the journey. Not a second glance from the majority of those I met. In store I was accosted by a woman, at a concession, asking whether I used a nectar card. I said that I didn't and moved on. As I walked up the parallel aisle I heard her comment to her fellow worker. "I've seen one in tartan, but I've never seen one in khaki. Looked nice!" It could only be about me. On reflection, perhaps I should have gone back for a chat.

The rest of the journey, with stops in Southampton and Salisbury, was uneventful, but very slow - and not a glance or a comment.

I was, however, very comfortable! Much better than the shorts my wife would prefer me to wear.

Maybe I softened them up for you on a brief visit to Worthing last weekend, Mike. My skirts were, however, only on view on the prom and in my seafront hotel, so it is not very likely.
Keep on skirting,

Alastair
