Spring is here !
Hello,
In my garden it was this afternoon 16 celcius. So, it is spring. A lovely time, to work in the garden en grap all those old flowers from the hortenia's. In my garden in front of the house i weared my short German Lederhose, But behind our house, I weared mij short skirt,30 cm (eleven and a half inch) Scottich skirt.

Re: Spring is here !
When I went to work this morning it was -16C. I see no evidence of spring just yet.
I don't believe tomorrow is supposed to be any better, but my ISP is currently blocking access to the National Weather Service. Boneheads.

Re: Spring is here !
Yeah, I heard much of western Europe is having a mild winter. Wish we were! I have had about enough of the "wintery mix" that we seem to get a couple times a week lately. But I also know that Mother Nature has a way of balancing itself out...so watch out for the coming summer...it bodes to be brutal.
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...
Re: Spring is here !
Rumour has it that there is a high pressure area due over the English Islands next week bringing the heady temperatures in the high teens. Not that the National Weather Centre is always right even with their super duper computers and satellites that can take pictures of the cloud formations. The weather must be warming up as I've seen a 100% increase in the number of women picking kids up and wearing skirts - from 2 to 4, add to that a teacher and that made 5 in one day.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Bet you didn't see any men in skirts! (yourself excepted of course).
It has been a relatively mild winter here with very few days of scraping the car windows. Though in the highlands, they say they that the amount of snow there, is more than most people can remember!
The weeds in our garden think it's spring - might need to get the trowel out this weekend and show them who's boss! Must also get more bark mulch to help keep the blighters at bay!

I was wondering the same thing...Ray wrote:What are the English islands?
I guess they would be the Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, the Isles of Scilly...
Have fun,
Ian.

I didn't want to pick that baton up!
Presumably it excludes Arran, Skye, Outer Hedrides, Orkney, Shetland.... (and Arran, Eigg, Rhum, Muck, Coll, Islay etc etc...)
The Scottish weather next week seem to be very similar to recent weeks - around 10-12deg C max and showers, some heavy

And don't forget Rockall!....and by the same token, Rathlin, I suppose. Lundy, of course, but Anglesey....There are an awful lot of Welsh people living there. Last time I was in Llanfairpwllgwyngilgogerychwyrndrobwillllantisiliogogogoch they weren't sounding very English!
Happily the A55 now bypasses the place.

Ian, the Isle of Man isn't part of England; it's a crown dependency.
Re: Spring is here !
We're having the beginnings of what we call "Spring in the Rockies" in Colorado. It is 0 deg. C, 100% RH, snowing wet heavy stuff with several inches of new accumulation. The periwinkle had a couple of blooms this morning that are now covered. Not kilt weather today
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.
Re: Spring is here !
Spring hasn't arrived here in the Northeast U.S. where I live. Hell, we had snow just five days ago, and while temps are rumored to reach 50 today, we're still not out of the frigid woods yet. I remember shoveling half a foot of snow from my sidewalk one night between games during March Madness (the NCAA men's college basketball tournament for the sports challenged) around a decade ago, and that was late March. I'll wait until April to break out my short denim skirts, thankyouverymuch.

Re: Spring is here !
As Jeff points out, and I believe he's south of where I live, we'll not be "out of the woods" until a couple of weeks into April.
The National Weather Service here pegs the beginning of "meteorological spring" as the first of March. This elicited some grim laughter because at the time it was about -16C for a low and -10 for a high. Generally speaking, I put it on 1 April, a week or so after the Vernal Equinox -- and I can wait for it.
There have been a few instances of accumulating snow in April, but those are, by and large, rare events. The date of last freeze, though, which farmers and growers use, is sometime in May.
Why anybody settled in this part of the world remains a mystery to me. It's a sub-arctic hell in the winter, then turns into a sub-tropical hell in the summer - with precious little break between the two.

Spring MUST be here. A friend sent me this picture of deer moving around in his back yard. I hope it actually shows up in this post.

Technically true. But, wearing my Boris Yeltsin hat, it's an English Island if we decide we want itRay wrote:Ian, the Isle of Man isn't part of England; it's a crown dependency.
