Should I wear a skirt ?
Should I wear a skirt ?
The plumber is coming over to install a new toilet this week.
I have been getting in to the habit of wearing a skirt and pantyhose,
around the house and yard, because I find that wearing a skirt is
more comfortable than wearing shorts. I live in AZ. and the tempts are in the 100s. Should I wear a skirt, or shorts?

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
Yes, be yourself and go for the skirt. You are paying the plumber? Then he is hardly going to disrespect you in your own home.
Your look IMHO is just great. Maybe just leave off the pantyhose in view of the high temp.
Good luck

I was barefoot with painted toenails for my plumber. These days it's all about keeping the money flowing. When the job was done, I asked him how much, he gave me a number, and I paid it on the spot.

See your own postings of 8 Sep 07, 15 April 08 and 17 November 2008 whose content is remarkably similar. I would have thought you would have gained some insight from the responses then.

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
When any maintenance people (read: men, since I've never been sent an actual maintenance *woman*) come to my house to repair something, I invariably have to endure remarks about how messy my house is, how much crap I have in it, and other personal observations that I wish they'd just shut the h*ll up about. I am not paying them to disrespect me in my own home, but they do it, all the same. I can therefore understand this question -- one wants these people to come to one's house, do their jobs, and get out, with as little hassle as possible.
However, I can't help but feel that if I were male, six-foot-three, and, well male, they wouldn't make personal observations about my house, my housekeeping, my possessions, or anything else. I would say, jpf85653, wear whatever you want to wear; no doubt the plumber will keep silent. And if there is a lack of silence, ignore all personal comments... and all sarcastic ones.
Cheers,
Inertia

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
I can understand where johnny is coming from on this one. I had a sat. guy come to my house and I had to think about it for awhile as to weather I should wear a skirt or not! Ray i don't think in this case it's about being indecisive it's more along the lines of being worried that this person is going to come into his home and make fun of him or think ok this guy is gay and not like the fact and eaither pumel him or leave with out doing the job. There are a lot of people out there that are afraid of what is different. It is human nature to fear what is different and do one of 2 thing 1) Leave the situation (Flight) or 2) Attack the situation (Fight). Then there are those out there that have learned to master that nature and deal with thing's as they see fit! As far as what to do Johnny it's up to you! If you feel comfortable enough with wearing skirts around other people then go for it. If not then don't. The easiest way to get past the fear of others seeing you in a skirt is to wear out in public. Witch does not include around the house or yard. It is where others can see that you are different or choice to be different. Once you get comfortable with the fact that you are different then and only then will you be able to to be YOU!Ray wrote:If you need help on what to have for breakfast, we're more than happy to help you through your repeated indecision....
PS
Ray I was not attacking you I was just stating an obvious observation about the last line in you post.

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
Yes just wear skirt with or without pantyhouse (I would say tights for UK English) - I did the same as I wear tights and short skirt and went out at back garden to cut the grass as our nice neighbours pop up at the wall to say Good morning - didnt care about me in tights and skirt - they know and just normally, also took my dog to the park as well. just now Im wearing black tights, grey denim mini skirt and white t-shirt and black pump flat shoes - it nice and lighter...

For all we know, the plumber might be wishing he could wear a skirt in those temperatures ....

Commenting on Ray's post above, it might be that the original poster hasn't yet reached a level of comfort and confidence in his fashion choice that he needs and is seeking validation that it's actually OK to wear a skirt in the presence of others. This is understandable, but seeking validation here where there are more than a few chaps who wear skirts regularly -- and in public -- seems somewhat self-serving. Of course it's OK to wear a skirt; if the plumber is a professional the job will get done properly, money will exchange hands, and everybody will benefit from the deal.

Since this guy does not know you, I would go with shorts. No skirt! His mind is going to be wondering what the hell YOU are doing in a skirt rather than on his job!

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
Tooslowprius - no offence taken at all - you have a valid point - as does Carl.
However, I have seen a similar post on another forum, and to me it comes across as being not quite right.
To jpf - sorry if my view offends, but you never seem to follow your original post up, your posts are all slight variations on the same theme, and a more cynical observer could almost deduce that you get some sort of kick from the responses gained - perhaps in the validation referred to by Carl? If you responded by letting us know what you actually did, or by sharing a deeper insight into your issues, I would be reassured, but for the time being, I am of the view that there's something distinctly odd about your postings.
If you could prove me wrong, I would be delighted.

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
Hi guys, I wore the skirt and the hose when the plumber came, it was no big deal,
in fact he did not say anything about what I was wearing. He treated me just
like a normal person. I asked him if I could watch, and he said yes we talked
about the job the whole time a real nice guy. Then their was a problem,
I went to get the seat for the toilet in the other room and he said that it
would not fit the toilet, because the bowl was round and the seat was elongated.
The store people put the wrong bowl on the truck, the plumber already put
the toilet in. I was little mad but mistakes happen, I called the store and told them
what happen. they said that they would make it right. So the plumber had to come back
with a new bowl and do the job over again. Now this is the second time he seen me
wearing the skirt and hose, still he didn't ask me why I was wearing a skirt. I thought
that he may say something because of the mix up, I thought he be mad, but no,
the plumber completed the job and everything work out fine. After he left I felt
good, because it gave me the confidence I needed to wear a skirt, and be seen,
when someone comes to my house.
if I could get the courage up, my next step is wearing to the store.
The reason that I post questions, is because I lack confidence sometimes
about wearing a skirt, By hearing different view points it helps me make my decisions.
I sometimes think that outsiders, will think that I am not playing with a full deck.
Its true I belong to different skirt groups and its been a learning process.
I sorry that some of you think that I trying to miss lead you, but I not.
you can contact me anytime about wearing skirts and fashion freedom for men.
My future goal is to be able to wear a skirt in public, and be able to go were I want
and not be judged by people. I find that skirts are a lot more comfortable then wearing shorts.
I hope someday that I will be able to go into a store, and buy a skirt as a man wearing a skirt.

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
Johnny,
That's as good and open an answer as could have been hoped for, and I stand corrrected. You have responded in the way I hoped you would.
Just one question though - there have been many good responses to your previous posts - do they not help you? I appreciate that meeting a neighbour might be different from meeting a postal worker, but not that much.
I know from a little research that you frequent other fora. Skirts, hosiery, and indeed other ones too which there's no need to mention here. I hope that on this, as on other fora, you find the support you need.
Regards

Re: Should I wear a skirt ?
I'm sorry to hear about the travails with the new toilet, but, as you say, it all worked out in the end!
There's a reason the plumber wasn't particularly perturbed about "having to do the job again": he got paid for it -- again -- by the store that made the blunder of putting the wrong bowl on the truck! This is just "business as usual" for when things go wrong. Obviously everybody was quite professional about this, and that's the way it should be. In fact I would have been surprised if he'd said anything to you at all about your attire (he's probably seen "stranger").

This is very common amongst men who are taking their first tentative steps, and really it's to be expected. Not everybody has the fortitude to say, "Damn the torpedoes" and dive in headfirst -- and one of the things that SkirtCafe is here to do is support folks through the initial steps, precisely because they can be unfamiliar and sometimes scary (fear of the unknown). The reason that I post questions, is because I lack confidence sometimes about wearing a skirt, By hearing different view points it helps me make my decisions. You've already made strides towards just that. Wear your skirt in public whenever you wish, and you will gain confidence each time you do. Eventually, you'll be able to don skirts as easily as you currently do trousers -- and you'll have the choice of whichever style you want for the day.My future goal is to be able to wear a skirt in public, and be able to go were I want and not be judged by people.
