My first non-trousered public out and about-ing was in a sarong on the Greek island of Santorini. It was so comfortable. I still wear sarongs when the weather is too hot for a modern kilt or denim skirt, and wear sarongs almost exclusively while on holiday. A lovely, colourful, reasonably priced garment.

My first skirted outing was in a sarong on a South Sea island and I loved it. Kilts are better because they are easier to keep fastened, unless you wear a sarnong with a belt. Skirts are even better because they are lighter and more comfortable.

i'm a convert.
Wore a couple of sarongs last week in spain. It was great in the theme park as it was so comfortable and cool. I also had the last laugh on the water rides as I dried off in a fraction of the time it took those in shorts without having set garments clinging and rubbing.
Since returning home i've worn them in the evening and my wife is getting used to seeing me in one .
The kids don't bat an eyelid either

Sarongs? They're wonderful! They're the non-trousers you'd see me in (except at night, when it's nightshirts for me). They're comfortable, and I've mastered the art of wrapping them so they do no embarrass me. Now I have both conventional wrap and "sewn end tube" type sarongs.

A sarong is just about the most simple and flexible and comfortable garment there is. When I go on a sun/beach holiday I would rarely wear anything else; I normally roll it up to about knee-length. The only strange experience I've ever had while in a sarong was one year when a small group of boys, about 3 of them aged about 10-12, started laughing loudly and slagging me and following me (at a safe distance) most of the way home after a day at the beach. They were talking in Spanish so I didn't understand them, but I heard the word "falda" (skirt). I treated the whole thing with a pinch of salt and just ignored them; it was actually a bit of fun but I wasn't going to humour them by reacting either way. They eventually lost interest.

Sarongs are great. I don't really like the way they are open up to the tied part. So. My wife made a wrap out of mine with a couple hook loops, small and handy metal loops that hook together. The good part is that if I do wish to tie one on (hahahaha), I still can, the loops are that small.

Latin, how impressing, I'm really impressed. I can speak Latin, here's some examples>>
E Pluribus Unum, Elatinius Oceanops(a small bright blue and black cleaner wrasse also known as a Neon Goby), Panilirus Argus(Also known as Florida Lobster), Lutjanius Greseus(Also known as Mangrove Snapper, excellent eating fish).. Are you all suitably impressed? It's OK if you're not. I found E Pluribus Unum on my money, and the rest are the Latin names of some of the local fishes and invertebrates in the Keys. I had to have my dad pay thru the nose for my Bachelor's Degree in Marine Taxonomy for me to learn tens of thousands of useless names.
The "hiring" market for Marine Taxonomists is about the same as the hiring market for hat cleaners or those specialists that create 3 foot long pipe cleaners for American Indian peace pipes.

Otherwise you can go for a Tube Sarong, once you have mastered the critical fold and roll technique they work well with no gape.

Given a choice, mostly I would prefer to wear a skirt to a sarong, except whilst on the beach or having been near a pool sunbathing. However I do have a few sarongs that have been great, they just need to be fastened on correctly and of a reasonable/comfortable material, a few being either too harsh cotton or see through. I do most of the gardening however in a sarong.

Sarongs are a great recreational garment, ideal for lazing around on warm summer days. At other times, skirts are a better choice - my preference is either an 'informal' fabric like denim, canvas or corduroy with a broad belt, or else simple, straight skirts as come with suits, preferably in black, navy or grey.
