Supermarket queue North East Scotland, 2007. Guy in very conservative type business suit top, shoe and socks, substitute trousers for a mini-kilt.
The effect looked wrong but admired his courage and yeah he got looks but I think it was the incongruity not the skirt which drew the eye.

I think if you are going for formal wear or business type look you want to wear a classic kilt with the knee length. Not different from women. I don't see a woman wearing a business suit with a mini skirt: you expect to see something more business like...

Out and about...

We went out to Fontainebleau State Park last weekend to have a stroll-about, picnic, and look at the alligators. The weather was perfect (sunny and ~80F). I wore a knee-length green skirt and strappy sandals, and a dress shirt. We were accompanied by my Department Chairman and his wife.

Lovely day, lovely picnic. While strolling a couple of 'kids' (25 years?) drove by in a pickup, and the driver made idle conversation ("lovely weather...") while his passenger snapped photos of me. The driver kept rolling slowly forward which actually impaired the passenger's line of sight, so I said to him "Hey, stop rolling, your buddy is trying to take my picture." At this they both laughed, as apparently they had been trying to be coy about it! (I don't know how that would be possible when you are pointing your phone at a stranger, but hey there's a lot about being in your 20s that I don't remember! :) )

Anyway, the point of this post: Two strangers being shocked at a guy in a skirt and trying to take pictures, but then via idle conversation realizing that (a) He's just this guy, you know and (b) Yes, he does know that he is wearing a skirt.

All the best,

Chris

A group of us went to a ceildh at the Sulis club in Bath last Saturday. The guitarist in the band wore a black Utilikilt, there was another guy in a homemade kilt (I've met him before) and me in a black Union kilt. Three skirted men in one place!
One (trousered) man said he liked my skirt, so I told him I couldn't dance in trousers - much too hot

I saw so many guys wearing kilts (and a few in skirts) in Whitby on Hallowe'en Sunday.
I took photos of eight guys in a variety of kilts from traditional through goth, and one wearing a black denim mini skirt while out strolling with his girl, and there were quite a lot of others of whom I didn't manage to get pics. Nobody second glances a guy in a skirt these days, other than another guy in a skirt, i.e. me.
And I am only talking of skirted guys presenting as men, not counting crossdressers of which there were plenty of those around at Hallowe'en as well.

This year, have decided not to wear a skirt or kilt at Halloween, don't want to send the message that it's a "costume". I went as an dark Monk instead -- long brown robe, hood, white face, etc.

I agree - nothing more scary and frightening on a Halloween is the thought you have to wear trousers!!!!

During the summer 2010 hiking season, I saw a guy (20s - 30s) wearing a beige hiking skirt hiking near Paradise (Mount Rainier National Park, WA USA) in August. He was hiking with one other guy going in the opposite direction and I was only able to observe him for a few seconds as I was hiking with a large party of friends.

A few weeks later, in downtown Seattle, I saw a young man (20s) with a gal at a bus stop. He was wearing a regular kilt outfit with the sporran, flashes, etc. There was no festival going on so he was dressed up for his own reasons.

14/02/2011 - BBC "The One Show" had Marti Pellow (singer) in a grey 21st Century kilt. Nothing was said about the kilt - he just wore it.

Marti's kilt looked good I thought, though it has just occurred to me how much it looked like a grey school skirt. It must be the type of the fabric or just the shade. Anyway, not that that is a bad thing.

Spotted last Sunday in Marlow, Buckinghamshire was this group of runners raising money for charity. I guess this sort of exercise does nothing for the cause of men in skirts however I was surprised and quietly pleased by how little attention the public paid to them. Maybe men in dresses raise fewer eyebrows than we expect.

Have fun,

Ian.

Well, guys in dresses like Jack Williams is one thing we'd love to see more of, guys dressed as women in dresses, fake boobs and wigs is nothing new and (I believe) not something positive for the cause of men in "unbifurcated" clothing. :blue:

Interesting to note, here in Scotland it is still illegal for a guy to "impersonate" a female.
This means the ones in the photo would be safe unless they were a tad more convincing. Parody is O.K. and still does nothing for our situation.
Steve.
