The United States is still in Farenheit. 35 degrees farenheit is very cold. Hence my response.

Around here for the past few weeks, if you stick on a pair of water-wings, you can fly. There is more water above than in the loch.

Also it's been very windy. So much fo the barbecue summer we we promised!

Tomorrow, what's left of hurricane Bill is due to arrive, I don't know how we will know the difference though. A few inches of rain a day and a good gale, no difference really.

Well, in these here parts it's slated to be about 90 (that's 32 for you SI guys) and humid -- so, it'll be a skirted rig to work tomorrow, just like today.

Yesterday, work "adjusted" the A/C to a set-point of 78 (26 C); this had the effect of turning off not only the chillers but also the ventilation fans. The result was that I was solidly miserable and uncomfortable. Today they didn't, and I wound up cold despite closing my office doors to keep the heat from my machines in my office. I want to find the designer of that HVAC system and hurt him -- or, better yet, make him endure the products of his design.

Big thunderstorm happening as i peck. The day, however, has been really nice. I took some photos out there today for the site in pretty perfect conditions (a bit much sun, cloudy-bright in the one) but we have in Auckland what i call "strobe weather". You have no idea how many clothes to have on from one minute to the next!

Well, today was the 1st day that we didn't break 100F.
The temp got up to 97.8F which is hot, but not as hot
as we've had the past 12 days.

We are experiencing a heatwave that is breaking records set for November. Today it is 100F. and was 98 yesterday. A town to the west of here called Roma (don'ta laugh) was 114 yesterday!! Summer looks like being dreadful, there are already bushfires around the area.

How about reports from the U.K. members regarding their tropical downpours.

Environment Agency chairman Lord Smith was in Cockermouth
You have a Enviroment Agency chairman named Lord Smith? Is that his first name or title? And he spends some time in Cockermouth? What a name for an area... We DO speak a different kind of English here in the "colonies"..:cyclops: :alien:

Skip,

Cockermouth is so called because it sits at the mouth of the River Cocker, where it flows into the River Derwent. Right now the town is a mess due to the flooding and, since the Environment Agency is the part of government that is responsible for flood defences in England, Lord Smith really could not avoid making an appearance.

Lord Smith is a fairly interesting character, his official title is Baron Smith of Finsbury, his given name is Christopher and his wikipedia page may be found here.

Have fun,

Ian.

Very nice sunny day here today. No good for the cricket in Dunedin though. Rained out.

It's just wet here now, especially underfoot. We've had a few weeks of cold (for us) weather with snow on the ground that has caused travel chaos; it does not happen here very often and we're simply not equipped for it. I've had several days when I could not get out of the house and so worked at home (not a problem), one day when it took me well over four hours to discover that I could not get to work and then fight my way home again and one day when I could not get home at all. However, now it is starting to thaw fairly quickly. It still feels cold and damp and heavier skirts and kilts are far more comfortable than lightweight garments, but at least travel is more or less back to normal.

Now I'm waiting for the papers to begin bleating about flooding as the snow melts :D

Have fun,

That's a nice shot of the "happy cactus" Jack. Thanks for posting it; it brought some colour and joy into a drab and dreary New England medwinter day.

It's actually supposed to get to into the low 40s (F) today -- the first time it's been substantially above freezing since late last month. I am so ready for spring.....
