"Got tired of the uniform"!
Actually, I haven't even used that for ages, I seem to have run out of reactions.
I'm just a bit of the "scene", hardly noticed for the skirts.
The "pipe" gets a lot more attention!
Steve.

Ha, these days I see as many pipes as I see men in skirts. I have never smoked but when I was younger I never complained about passive smoking with pipes; they always had a pleasant aroma compared to cigarettes. I think the pipe would help dispell any suggestion of crossdressing, although I knew of a couple of elderly women who smoked pipes, both dead now (from old age).STEVIE wrote:"Got tired of the uniform"!

Re: "Comebacks" for remarks made at your Unbifurcated
So far I have never had to make a comeback to a remark. I never initiate any conversation regarding wearing a skirt, as I would not if wearing pants, I think it comes across as apologising - for what I think should be accepted as normal.
I have had a few queries, all similar:
"what is that you are wearing"
"it's a skirt"
"are you wearing a skirt"
"yes" said as if the question was are you wearing pants.
"how come you are wearing a skirt"
"oh, they are great in warm weather"
I have had a lady respond to that one with "do you think they really are much better than pants?"
I replied "may be skirts are more beneficial to men"
I have never had a comeback from a man but always expecting "Hmph, I have never found pants uncomfortable"
and I am ready with my reply "Oh ...... I must need more room"
[Later Edit] ....... perhaps a reply "I am pleased for you" would not be so challenging
[Another thought] ...... "Yes I did too until I wore a skirt"

Re: "Comebacks" for remarks made at your Unbifurcated
I am travelling at present and have just visited a few charity stores shopping for skirts, in a skirt. A few double takes but no comments except for one elderly lady serving who said "thankyou madam". Me with hairy legs and a beard. I wasn't sure if she was being nasty or trying to be understanding in a clumsy sort of way. I was just leaving and pretended not to hear which was probably the safest tactic for all.

Re: "Comebacks" for remarks made at your Unbifurcated
I was going into the bank last Friday with a black panel skirt over black leggings and black shoes with a red polo shirt under a blue Hilfigger hoodie.
An older guy was coming toward the doors with a walker, so I held the door open for him and got a 'Thank you ma'am" followed by an "errr, Sir" once he was able to make out my bearded face and balding head. Not the first time, I'm soft-spoken so I've gotten ma'amed a lot over the phone over the years. I just said "No problem." And held the door till he passed.
We see what we want to see, or expect to see, and have a brief moment of cognitive dissonance as we focus in on what we're really looking at. Something like that.

If I ever get a put down from other males I'd just tell them to try it, they might like it.

I do that fairly often, and enjoy the way it puts people on the defensiveness.hairy wrote:If I ever get a put down from other males I'd just tell them to try it, they might like it.
It even more often, I just throw them a friendly smile and wish them a nice day. Works wonders.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Don't be too quick on the draw
I called into a big hardware store and needed a pee. I was wearing a denim mini skirt and asked one of the staff "where are the toilets?"
He replied "What? for you to use?"
I immediately started to think of some smart and cutting reply but he got in before me and said "We do sell toilet pans here".
For once I was thankfull I was slow to respond.

Thanks denimini, that really brought a chuckle.
Not sure I would have known how to respond either.
I'm not sure that I can duplicate what thoughts must have been going through his mind and you have to give him credit for something, although I'm not sure what.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

For the more "aggressive" asker....
Asker: "Men aren't supposed to wear skirts dontcha know...."
Me: "What... did I wake up in the middle east this morning? Am I not free to decide how to clad myself on my own time? Or should I call you every morning for a fashion consultation?"
Saving this debate for the eventual argument I'll have with a few at my work place.....
Chances are, with one co-worker in particular, I've already used two, possibly three words he won't even know the definition of.
Asker: "Men aren't supposed to wear skirts dontcha know...."

What's ironic is that men can wear skirted garments in the Middle East.moonshadow wrote:For the more "aggressive" asker....

I doubt they wear what I wear. Unless the American media has SERIOUSLY misrepresented the culture of that region.Judah14 wrote:What's ironic is that men can wear skirted garments in the Middle East.
Still, even if they would allow it, I could always play that to my advantage in an argument.
"Good God man, you mean to tell me I can dress like this in the middle east, but not here in "free" America?"
Works either way.... bottom line is, social prohibitions on clothing are asinine regardless of your residency.

In the library once I had a guy say "Men don't wear skirts" to which I replied "This one does". Later I thought a better reply (that would actually have made him think) would have been "Why?"moonshadow wrote:For the more "aggressive" asker....

Charlie
If I want to dress like a woman, I'll wear jeans.
