I've taken my time over the holiday to think about alternative strategies and what I'm going to do in future is not respond in the same way but act myself in a calm and even manner an d treat anything as such a non-event. I certainly can't go on as I am so a change of tactics is well overdue. I actually did this last night when I bought 2 skirts from ASDA. She tried to kick off but I just treated the purchase of the skirts as I would the purchase of any other item of clothing. I was calm although trying to wind me up by saying that all I would do is buy more and more skirts and she hoped that they would fit me ( they were a size 16 and I take a 14/16 ) and that they would be too short ( they are 21" which on me end up just above the knee ), she was calm and the purchase was totally normal. I even asked for the skirt hangers ( I normally do as you can't really buy them ). By any standard a moderate success. :D

It was shortly after this that she made the remark about me wearing a skirt shopping in ASDA and expecting her to accompany me. I just said that I expected nothing but would accept anything that she was prepared to give as and when she was ready and not before. Maybe my campaign is starting to have an effect - the fact that I am standing uo for myself and am prepared to wear a skirt despite her and this is one battle that she is NOT going to win.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

For skirt hangers, look up Hangerworld. They sell on EBay or you could Google their own site instead.

For a wife who accepts her husband in skirts ... sorry, no idea! But to be less flippant, it does seem like you are making some headway, so keep it up.

Back to the original question. My answer in general is "yes but they don't generally say anything about it". To that I can now add "not if it is dark and they are drinking". Drunk people are not very observant about passers-by. Their somewhat restricted attention is all directed towards those they need to interact with: their companions, bouncers, kebab sellers, etc, while the skirted man slips by unnoticed.
Keep on skirting,

It would appear that some do not,
I have been full-time work skirted for nearly two years now.
Today was a dress down so it was denim.
A remark from a female colleague "Have you not thought about wearing a skirt more often?"
She seemed truly flummoxed at my response.
Really not sure about this one.

Wait, she hadn't realised that you had been wearing skirts full time? The smarter ones you had been wearing were taken to be, what? Shorts? What kind of skirts had you been wearing?

Is it possible that she might be using sarcasm with her comment? She may've noticed long ago.

Looks like the case is proven at least at your work in that it isn't noticed at all now. It''s just you at your work. The outfits you have worn and shown here fit perfectly into a professional environment.
Great news!

(I wouldn't say it was with sarcasm - but if anything, it's much more likely to be just friendly banter! Or was the difference a denim skirt you had on?)

I've known her for a few years now and she just wouldn't use sarcasm.
What I hadn't realised is that she's almost completely oblvious to anything outside her immediate circle.
Quite simply, she really doesn't notice and that would be true of many things, not just my skirts.

Yes, I've come across the fact that many people are almost deliberately oblivious to many things.

Earlier this evening I was at a supermarket wearing a Royal Robins knee-length skirt in a GI drab green canvass material. Nothing could more innocuous or uncaling to the eye, yet I could tell that some people noticed without effect, some noticed and seemed unnerved by the realization, and some didn't appear to notice at all. It was mainly women who noticed, and men who didn't. And naturally there were four women for every man shopping in the store. So I still think it is wishful thinking to believe that no one notices. It is probably more true to say that not many people care, and most who seem affected are either too timid/polite/disturbed to say anything. But what would you say to a man who looks like your basic unkempt workingman aside from the fact he wears a skirt?
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...

Agreed, this has been my observation as well. At least initially, your own emotions from wearing a skirt in public are probably a hundred time stronger than those of anyone who notices you.

Hello. Have a good day. I like your skirt. Takes some balls, eh?

Or the ever-trite, "Are you Scottish?" (To which I usually answer, "No, just crazy," or, "No, but I drank some once.")
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Well, I got noticed this afternoon.

It's usually the gals that notice and speak up on the matter of my skirts and overall appearance, but this afternoon is was a younger chap at the local petrol station who gave me a good stare and then commented, "Of all the folks I've seen since I've been working here, your look is the most amazing. Kudos!" (And a "thumbs up".)

I'll call that a win. Exchanges like that put a real spring in your step.

Wore this outfit at a mall in South Jersey last weekend:

Image

The skirt was a 30 inch button down number I bought at Sears a couple of weeks ago. Very stylish yet tasteful which is how I often roll when in public. Strolling through the mall, I got no odd looks, stares, double takes or giggles. While I've always been of the belief that people at large are too wrapped in their own lives and affairs to pay any attention to something considered out of the norm like a man in a skirt, I had to admit to having been a tad surprised at not being the center of attention. I found that to have been rather cool.
I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman.

Out and about in town today as per most days now.
I encountered a family, mum, dad and a couple of young kids. Dad was pointedly staring at me so I gave my usual "It's all about freedom".
His reply, " aye fit'ever". Translate as, yes whatever.
However, that fails to convey the cynicism, I've seen it all before and general boredom that is conveyed in the statement.
Then, why was he so completely captured by my rather conservative skirt? Needless to say I left that bit unsaid and enjoyed a nice walk in the sunshine we had here today.
I just love days like this.
Steve.
