Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
Dennis --
I don't think those who challenged your original post were "critiquing every last detail." I think everyone here understood what you were saying. You were pretty clearly saying how wonderful it was back in the days when most women dressed in a "feminine" way and how unhappy you were that things had changed. We who challenged you were basically responding that you were ignoring an important part of the picture -- that women back then were forced to dress that way (and some still are) and that few women will dress that way on a regular basis unless forced to -- and that we could not enjoy someone being forced to dress for our pleasure, and we wondered how you could.
It is your privilege to like whatever you like -- to, so to speak, love bear rugs yet claim you don't approve of killing bears. But you cannot expect to express such views without being challenged by people who do see the connection. And who see the effects on people we care about of such "likes" being accepted as "normal" and being turned into private and public policy.

We are bunch of a bit "special" people and it's hard to expect from us to agree on anything besides that skirts are COOL.

y'know, it's really starting to piss me off the way so many people keep telling dennis what he was actually thinking/feeling/saying.
i thought his words were quite simple, poignant, and straight-forward.
he misses seeing women in skirts, and apperantly the simpler times that included.
y'all keep twisting HIS words into what YOU want him to have said, so that YOU can piss & moan about HIS meaning.
this is starting to sound like a debate in the A.C.L.U.

That is exactly what we said he was saying.r1g0r wrote:y'know, it's really starting to piss me off the way so many people keep telling dennis what he was actually thinking/feeling/saying.

My point, at least, was that those times were only "simpler" if you were male. They weren't "simpler" for the women involved.
And they weren't "simpler" for males who failed to conform to the Male Standard (such as me, even thought I didn't wear a skirt at the time.) BTW, surviving as a male in those "simpler times" meant you wouldn't be caught DEAD in skirt. (Well actually, to be more accurate, if you were caught in a skirt, you'd be dead, so, you WOULD be "caught dead" in a skirt.)
Nobody is twisting his words -- or yours. We just don't agree that those days were so wonderful.r1g0r wrote:y'all keep twisting HIS words into what YOU want him to have said.
ESPECIALLY since nowadays, we (men) get to wear skirts!
Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
I love seeing women in skirts too. Just this past week I was in Lexington Ky. visiting my daughter and son in law. I was in Fayette Mall and observed for an hour. Of all the women that passed by where I was sitting and waiting, 3 yes three women had on either a skirt or dress. The rest had either shorts, capri's, trowsers or jeans...
Then as I went to the mens room I observed the stick figures on the doors. The mens had a plain stick figure and the womens showed a stick figure with a skirt - Hmmmmm

Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
I too enjoy seeing (some) women in skirts and dresses. I agree with AMM's analogy:
I hope I won't enrage too many though by (mis)quoting Billy Connolly to demonstrate my qualification above - "Fat women should nay wear ski pants". This is not to say that someone shouldn't wear what they like within the realms of common decency (i.e. covering those parts of the anatomy that should be covered in public), but I, personally, do not enjoy seeing certain body types being over exposed or accentuated. I also do not like the prevalence of low rise trousers that display much of the wearer's underwear or backside when bent over, or the exposed midriff (these equally apply to some men) and, as far as male fashions go, men covering their beer bellies wearing oversized football (soccer) shirts also look awful; but these are the individual's choices. Maybe someday we will all be judged by the content of our character, not by the clothes that we wear.
Moreover, I enjoy seeing attractive women dressed attractively. This may be in a skirt, a dress, or even trousers with coordinated tops, footwear and accessories, etc. I have seen some awful skirts, dresses and trousers on some very attractive women, and thought to myself that they need some help in the wardrobe department. I have also seen some women who are no longer blessed with model looks and figures who have made (what I consider to be) excellent sartorial choices. In each instance the outfits are their choices and their expression of individuality. Who am I to dictate lest someone dictates that I should not wear skirts, tights (pantyhose), and boots.AMM wrote:But I think of it as being a little like finding a quarter (10p piece, for you Brits) on the sidewalk: a nice bonus, not something I feel I have a right to. If I don't find a quarter one day, I don't get upset that I didn't get my quarter.

Yes times have changed wonderfully. Nobody seems to "bat an eye" when i wear my dress down the road on my Sunday "dress day".

I did see some photos of skiing in kilt... Could be but late winter or early spring.

Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
In about 1995, whilst skiing in Andorra I was passed by an attractive young woman, long blonde hair, and very slim, crusing fairly quickly down a relatively easy run. She caught my attention, and the attention of pretty much everyone else on the slopes by her ski outfit, or lack thereof. Aside from the necessities for skiing (Skis, boots, socks and poles) the only other thing she wore was the bottom half of a bikini. It was very sunny that day though.Mipi wrote:I did see some photos of skiing in kilt... Could be but late winter or early spring.

To tell you the truth it appears to be "de riguer"(sp) for young teenage women in these parts to wear micro minis rain, snow or sunshine.

Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
I've seen similar things in ski racing. Skiing can be quite aerobic, and I can see where you might be more worried about being too hot than too cold. But I don't think anyone would want to go up on a ski lift (sitting, doing nothing, exposed to the wind, etc.) dressed that way. In the cases I saw, someone was waiting at the bottom with warm clothes to put on.skirtingtherealissue wrote: In about 1995, whilst skiing in Andorra I was passed by an attractive young woman ... crusing fairly quickly down a relatively easy run. Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
I will not wear a skirt x-c skiing for two reasons. The first is that I'm a klutz and have the remakable ability to fall down over just about anything. The second reason is that some x-c trails through wooded areas are rather narrow and a skirt (especially if I'm wearing it) would catch on everything.
But this is just me. I'm not advocating that skirts should not be worn whilst skiing, just sharing the reason why I would not choose to wear one.
Also, back in the day when my brother and I did "kamikaze" sledding, a skirt would definitely been detrimental. We were trying to go as fast as possible, go over a small bluff and see how far we could jump the small stream at the bottom of the bluff without actually landing in the water.

Re: I like seeing women in skirts!
At the risk of also being flamed I will state that I like seeing women in skirts and dresses too. And, upon reflection, dresses more than skirts (not sure why). Now I certainly agree with the majority that everyone should be free to wear what they want, and I would never want anyone to be forced to wear a skirt or dress if they didn't want to. But that doesn't change the fact that most women simply look better in a skirt or dress than in pants or shorts. Yes, I also remember when women were forced to wear skirts or dresses, just as us guys were forced to wear neckties. Both are equally crazy, but I always thought the girls got a better deal, as nothing could have been worse than being forced to wear a necktie.
