Well it has been tried but maybe we should just keep doing it, I don't think we (men in general populace) give it enough effort to make it work. When I say that I mean most of us here do wear skirts often but I refer to male public at large. Of course saying that, for many men it does not even come up on the radar!
End of May is a good time for sure.

The best thing for us is to make every day a skirt wearing day.

Re: Lets have a world skirt wearing day
No problem per se to introduce a “Men’s World Skirt Day”. The problem is that intense media coverage is needed to make the day known; and a critical mass of men being willing/daring to wear a skirt on that day to have any effect at all.
Man-skirt Metro Ride 2015 is announced. https://www.facebook.com/events/328965727307003/
Why not just be part of that – metro or not?
So far 13 persons are going to participate, two others might, and seven more have been invited. Not many. In 2014 it was 120 participating.
“The 2nd annual Man-Skirt Metro Ride will take place on Saturday, May 30th in Los Angeles, CA. (If you live in a different city, start a NEW event page and organize a man-skirt train/subway/bus ride in your city on this same day!)”
Otherwise I’m with Stu:

The problem is HOW to encourage these retailers. And again a critical mass is needed. For boys? I should say boys and men. But considering that girls started wearing "slacks" before their mothers (in the fifties, last Century it was) and so to speak grew up with them and kept wearing them, it might make sense.Stu wrote: If we don't have special days - then what else can we do? Can we not somehow encourage the mainstream retailers to sell garments which are a biyt like Utilikilts? How about solid coloured kilts for boys?

Re: Lets have a world skirt wearing day
I think it will take a bold move by a single clothing line of sufficient sales, volume, and brand name recognition, with appeal to a certain sort of customer in order that they can afford to roll the dice on a product that would almost inevitably be a "slow starter". It would probably have to begin with a product that is labelled (dare I say it) unisex, until companies figure out the right cut and look for male-specific skirts. I thought Mountain Hardwear might have had it with their hiking kilt, but they apparently pulled the plug on that theme. The clothing industry is a profit-fragile business, so it is asking a lot for them to gamble on a niche market. Fashion at full retail is a luxury that most of the world cannot afford, even if they like it. If men's skirt/kilt apparel actually get legs under it (no pun intended) some established "hip" brands may jump in. Basically, men in skirts have to appear in web retailers, online ads, and catalogs, but more importantly, commonly on college campuses to establish a trend.GerdG wrote:The problem is HOW to encourage these retailers. It is not an easy task to get the fashion industry involved in men's skirts. Nevertheless, H&M have made three, only halfhearted, unfortunately, attempts with a most limited distribution, and the last one in 2010.
The MountainHardware hiking kilt comes and goes. They are now again on the market with their Elkommando Kilt, at a reduced price, by the way. http://www.mountainhardwear.com/mens-el ... M3417.html
A major problem might be that men in skirts seem to be most price-conscious. At least I always read that women’s skirts are just as good, only cheaper.

Re: Lets have a world skirt wearing day
Youre correct. I like the Elcommando but even on sale its a little rich for my budget. I can't recall spending more than forty-five for a skirt, and most of mine are in the twenty-five range. And I still have a bitchin' assortment.
