Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
"Apostrophe Skirts" are made by Damian Spaulding in Canada
and he sells custom made skirts for men. He is also
a musician and hosts a local TV/Cable show wearing
his skirts. You can find him on Facebook too.

When asked 'Why the Kilt?'
I respond-The why is F.T.H.O.I. (For The H--- Of It)
Well as usual the thread has encouraged some interesting bits. I'm realizing that I may never uncover the original information I sought but such is life. "wink"
To those who contributed to the skirt manufactures question my thanks. Concerning the individual over in Minnesota it is entirely possible that I've mis-located the enterprise except to say that it was in that general area. I'll go looking for the threads concerned when I fininsh here.
Carl thanks for the "skant" reference I did not know that is what they were called. I know that Gene Roddenberry was the one to promote them as he believed that dress for both genders would include skirted garments for men as well as women in the Star Trek universe. I wonder what "high testosterone Captain Kirk would have looked? Hard to imagine but the Kirk character was a product of the 50's and mid 60's mentality that was staring the counter culture movement like a deer in oncoming headlights and not knowing what to do. Kirk snarled, Picard fidgeted and smoothed his tunic, and Janeway well she wore it all! LOL! What I wonder would have happened if the concept of genderless clothing had been embraced and integrated smoothly into the series with some style and grace? Personally I never liked the "skant" as it always put me in mind of a cheerleader outfit i.e. not adaptable day wear for that look to Scotty's kilt or Uhura's black uniform skirt they worked the skant didn't in my opinion. But that's my opinion and folks may disagree. Until earlier in this thread someone pointed out that the formal uniform worn in TNG was in effect a long sleeve knee length dress worn with tights I hadn't realized it, but you are so right! Duh!
Society keeps flirting with the idea of men in skirted garments I wish they would do the "paperwork" and get off the ...(well you know) and get on with it!
afterthought: Carl is it possible that we could have a dedicated place where we could post about skirts being seen in movies, TV, or used in fiction? I know that we already have "in the news & advocacy" but this type of thread seems to be more fitted to something like "skirts and Kilts in the Arts" subject. What do you think?
Thanks everyone!

I've found that most folks are quite accepting of me in my skirted rigs, so I have no reason to doubt that it'd be very different for anybody else. The key is having the courage and wherewithal to actually go through with the experiment

I'll expend some thought on the matter, but I'm rather reticent to expand an already-rather-large "landing" page to include another top-level forum, nor am I particularly inclined to reorganize the entire site into an entirely hierarchical format. We've had good success with our current format, and I'm not all that interested in tinkering with it. However, a "Men's skirts in History -- in fiction and fact" might be interesting.....

Thankyou Orca I do believe that you've found it. I can only recall the scenes from memory and only caught the final moments but this I think is it.
It only goes to show how memory sometimes gets warped over time as I don't recall any of the "crossdressing" elements and remember the skirt as a gray maxi! Since I cannot see the screen any longer I can't say how much I remember is true to form, the dialog certainly seems to fit. can anyone supply a breif description please?
Thanks to everyone for your help!
